Mikronite metal finishing process

What failing transaxles? That's only the people with the stage eleven turbo and a stock 150K mile trans.

I only get bits and peices of info on Eclipse drivetrain's being that I'm only instrested in the engine part for my swap, but I've heard on multiple sites about transaxles failing due to excessive HP. Can't really quote #s, but I was under the impression that it has/was/and does happen unless you harden the failing parts.
As for the REM Isotropic Super Finishing process, could you atleast provide a link so I could learn about this to inform you of the alike/dislikes??? |

I've yet to hear of anyone getting their money's worth treating tranny parts. Most of the big guys have either settled on a built Shep tranny or stepped up to a straight cut gear dogbox. Also driving it like you stole it is not recommended unless you've got the dogbox.

OK, Mikronite something else since you think doing a trans is worthless. I just simply posted it here to inform everyone of something that I not seen on this site (completed a search before posting- Clap for the Newbie). If you choose to not use it, more money to you.

No what he is trying to say...is the DSM tranny is pretty good if you don't beat on it. But yes this could be something else to look into but also remember DSM owners...try to spend less to go fast. Also we use parts that been proven over and over again. Its great to see that you are building up a Mighty Max. I have only read about two other Mighty Max's done up with a turbo set up. If you want to do this go ahead.
The most commen part breaking on a DSM is little stuff. hehe and 3bolt rearends.... |

I'm sure a DSM tranny would be fine if your drove it like a granny all the time. But then whats the sense in even having one of these cars? You might as well not mod it if you never plan on beating on it at all. Shit I have a Shep stage 3, and I drive that fucker like a grandma 98% of the time, because im still worried in the back of my head its gonna blow up one day.

I'm not planing on using a DSM transaxle, hell I didn't really plan on using the this process. I just happened to be checking out some SEMA videos and found this and thought it was impressive and figured it might be something others on this site could use.
I will say this, If I have a chance to try this (or the REM process) I would like to. I don't mind spending money on something like this if I think it could possibly help. BTW: I did ALITTLE reading on the REM process, it looks as tho this is a 2 stage process simular to the Mikronite. With REM, the 1st process is a chemical bath to fill the valleys in the surface, then the media is used to lower the peaks to the level filling the valleys during the first process. With Mikronite, they seem to only use the MEDIA, to Beat/fold the peaks into the valleys. I personally can't decided which would be better. I would think the Mikronite process would leave microscopic pores in the metal which could be considered weaker, but it might also allow for better lubrication abilities- allowing the oil to better bond with these pores. Just my own personal theroy after a small read up. If anyone has any other oppinions of the differences and simularities of the two please let me know. |
