6 bolt swap
I am doing a 6 bolt swap and I am trying to decide if I need to do all the mods to the front cover that RRE says you have to. Drilling all those extra holes and passages is going to be a pain. Magnus doesn't say you need to do it. Anyone know of better pages or anything?
I will be using a 7 bolt head, just the 6 bolt short block. The car will also not get DSMlink or anything, so I need to make sure I don't get CEL's. |
Re: 6 bolt swap
RRE uses the 7bolt front cover that is why you "need" to do all that stuff. I just used the magnus website. Also with my 98 eclipse with a "black top" CAS(i think) I have gotten a random misfire one time.

Re: 6 bolt swap
Use Magnus. I believe the only 1g accessory you use is the water pump. Otherwise everything bolts up from the 2g (PS, A/C, Alt.). You will need to trim the drivers motor mount to accommodate the pump. Other than that, it doesn't matter which head you use.

Re: 6 bolt swap
And they also use the 2G tensioner ass. so you have to grind the WP and the bracket that moves up and down. The RRE way is just a big mess IMO. BUT you get to use the 2G CPS(Crank Position Sensor) with that way, Which would get rid of the random misfire(most likely).

Re: 6 bolt swap
Looks like I will be doing it the RRE way if it will prevent the misfire codes. Are there chips available to put in the 95 ecu to kill the misfires?

Re: 6 bolt swap
I did the magnus way and got myself the black CAS from a 1g and I have not had any CEL's yet. I would go the magnus way if I were you. Let us know what you decide.

Re: 6 bolt swap
I have also heard somewhere that the 6bolt hyundia front covers have a place for a CPS. I dont know if thats correct but I heard that somewhere.

Re: 6 bolt swap
Hmmm, I have a 2.4l 6 bolt hyundai cover around here. I will check it out!
This car is going to a girl that knows nothing about cars, so I can't risk it ever getting a CEL. |
