powdercoat, or anodize?

This questions is for the cam gears to be specific. I was unsure of the type of metal these gears are, but I wish to know if they can be anodized, or if I should just powerdercoat them? Also, were are some places to take them to get coated/anodized? Thanks.

I believe that the stockers are steel and aftermarkets are aluminum.

so, i must powdercoat them huh? I wanted to anodize them a really nice, deep red, but I guess that won't happen. Anyone have pics of their powdercoated gears?

How about that red anodizing paint, from duplicolor? I could use heir reflective basecoat paint, and then the red. I'd assume it'd be fine, since nothing touches the gear it'self (Obviously, I don't paint the teeth)

I guess I've never used that paint. But there are powders out there that can resemble the anodized look. Here's an anodized red color...

Where can I get that done, but in a deeper red? That looks good!

I used that duplicolor paint on my valve cover and it looked really good just make sure you sandlblast the cam gears and clean them really well before painting, that paint needs a super clean surface to stick well. Mine starting cracking in spots because the VC has so many grooves. etc that I didnt clean well enough.

I've used that duplicolor paint before, but not on car parts. It's gotten kicked around nonstop for years though w/ no issues.

Yea I used the special primer that is supposed to be the silvery base coat for the actual paint. For some reason it just didnt stick to certain areas as well.

Anyone got a spare set of cam gears I can use? If you really want, i can give you the ones currently on my car, once i put the new ones on. (won't be till spring-ish)

Did you properly prep the surface or just spray it on there?

What do you think.... I cleaned the VC with paint thinner, scuffed the surface and cleaned it again. Its impossible to get into the grooves by the spark plug holes, etc. I should have bead blasted it but I didnt, and that is why the paint didnt stick in certain areas.

Didnt spend enough time on it but it turned out:
