Overheating problems??
Hi, i'm new to dsm and i'm going to buy my cousins 91 tsi awd turbo that has over-heating problems. I was wondering if you guys can shout out some ideas to me so i can start buying stuff for it so when i get, then i can check it to see wat's wrong with it.. THanks!! But my cousin told me he got a new fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, and new coil, but still overheats, yet i dont know if any of those would matter much since the overheating mostly deals with the radiator.

Re: Overheating problems??
Overheating can also be cause buy a few other things. Bad radiator cap, shitty radiator, low coolant, bad mix, bad sensor, even not having operational fans can help the cause along. Don't forget about a blown head gasket as well.
These are all keys to any car, especially a 15 year old car, in getting it running correctly and keeping it that way. |
Re: Overheating problems??
It can be as simple as a radiator cap or as complicated as a head gasket, without more info its impossible to go into more detail.

Could also be the thermostat.

Re: Overheating problems??
Is it the stock radiator? i had the one from the factory 16 years ago, now i replaced it with one from bumper to bumper and i don't overheat any more.
The fins get really crappy and cause less heat transfer which means the heat is going back into the engine. <- That was my problem his may be a combination of this one and the other ones above. |
Re: Overheating problems??
As these guys have said there are several possibilities. We would check the radiator cap, coolant level, sensors, and the radiator itself and go from there. We would be happy to take a look at it though if you want to swing it by...

Re: Overheating problems??
Leaks are a big one. I had a two leaky hoses and my car would over heat then puke up all the coolant.
