Saturday, Oct 25th is the 26th running of the Tombstone Trail rally in
Maplewood, MN. Registration is from 6 - 7 PM at the Maplewood Mall, I-694 and White Bear Ave. We'll be in the lot near Marshall Field's, right across from Schmitt Music Baxstage. Come and try the longest running, best attended car club event in Minnesota. All you need is 2 people, a car, a pencil, a flashlight and a sense of adventure. We'll take you on a scavenger hunt around rural Minnesota that you won't forget. Be prepared to visit some strange places! You can see our Web site or register online at: http://www.marblesoft.com/tombstone |
FYI this is not an off road regular Rally Cross or anything liek that. It's a road Rally that includes a whole lot of fun. Eric D is entering it I think.

Yep. I'm running this one. I am still looking for a co-driver though. Either post here or PM me if you're interested. This is my first one so don't be intimidated. They have classes setup as far as experience, not what kind of car you drive.
It'll be a blast. I've heard great things from people that have run this event before and the rallymaster for this event is Mark Larson (Rallymaster for Headwaters and Ojibwe Rallies). |
You guys missed out on some fun!!!! We had a blast. Collin was my co-driver and we took 1st in our class. It was our first time running one of these. We also came in 8th overall out of 31 cars!! We beat out all of the "B" and "C" class drivers. People told us we were going to be bumped up in class next year to possibly "B" class.
The way the classes work is by experience. Our class was "D" which was for people that had never run one before. The classes increase with experience up to "A". You are allowed to have more than the driver and co-driver in the car, but only 2 of you are allowed to be out of the car at one time. If you have more than the driver and co-driver in the car you get bumped up one class. Mary and Mark Utecht took first overall with Dave and Stacy Sterling in the car helping out. Dan Moore and Jason Metzker came in "Dead Last". I hope we can get some more of you guys out there next year. It is awesome to run this gimmick rally. |
now that i know what actually happens at this event i will be prepared next year. lots of fun though. there were some awsome roads there north of stillwater that i would love to visit again when its not dark and raining. somehow we got bumped to class A with 2 new people and one (jason metzgar) who had run twice before only as a navigator. oh well at least i got a gallon of tombstone hootch for the effort. the only thing that i was a bit dissapointed with was the fact that the end meeting place wasnt even close to being big enough to hold all of these people. kinda frusterating when you are really hungry and there is no where to sit. maybe we should have a dsm gag rally here in the future.?

so, what's the deal with these rallys. do you actually get to drive hard or is it a follow the map to this spot type of thing.
