CEL: Knock sensor

I just replaced my crap blow out knock sensor, and since then, minutes after startup I get a CEL for Knock sensor/or circuit malfunction (I used a mastettech scanner and it said it was code DTC 31). I just put in a brand new Mitsubishi OEM sensor, torqued just right. So wtf is up? Circuit issue?

Re: CEL: Knock sensor

how much did you tighten it? The knock sensor is a pretty sensitive unit. Clear the code and see if it comes back.

I feel like if it was torqued too much it wouldnt throw a code. Check the wires and the pin fitment.

Re: CEL: Knock sensor

My ECU caps are leaking, yes. This code wasn't on before I modded it (for those who don't know, the car was stock until the day after the cookout, and wasn't driven until 6 weeks later, with a few mods on 'er). The knock sensor on the car had the back all melted/blown out, so I replaced it with a new OEM one. As discussed in many threads, I acheived the 10-12 ft-lbs for the knock sensor with my Snap-On "use a damn crescent wrench and tighten it a half turn" tool.

Are you shure you got the right sensor 1g/2g I think the look the same but can't be swapped

Re: CEL: Knock sensor

The 1G one is bigger then the 2G one. The 1G one is about 1" and the 2G one is like 1/4"(ther hex part you tighten). Also Im almost positive they have different connecters too.

You can all call me retarded from now on...

Today I finally physically looked. I never connected the brand new knock sensor. It still had the protective cap over the plug. Fixed the problem now its connected lol. Wow, I must have been in a hurry to get the car going.

That sounds like something I would have done. I can't believe you didn't check that right away! Always double check all your connections!
