DSMs Dead once again....

Well you all know about my gremlin that was in my engine loosening up bolts.
On tuesday one of the bolts actualyl broke and was left in the tranny. So i ended up taking it to a shop and had them do it this time mainly because i didnt want to deal with taking out the tranny again. i got the car back on wednesday.
Tonight i was going to a car meet that happens every thursday night and i pull up on this 2g turbo, and light turns green and i make a pull, by the time i got to the next light and stopped the car was idling rough, i look in my rear view and what do i see. A HUGE CLOUD OF WHITE SMOKE!!! So i take a right and pull into a parking ramp. car is smoking like a bat out of hell. I instantly know its the head gasket. i open the hood with the car running and rev it up a bit, and it spit a little fluid at me. Shut the car off and call AAA.
Tomorrow i will be putting a Comatic High pressure head gasket on. YAY.

you know they discontinued the cometic HPs because a lot of them were faulty.

i would get a factory composite gasket, or a regular cometic.

Oh man that sucks. Hopefully nothing else will break this time :D. Do you get free towing with AAA or discounted? I don't know how much I spent on towing since I bought my dsm :D.

Yeah, the guy who is ordering the part for me from road race said they had an Evo3 head gasket in stock the cometic one they did not.
Anyone see any problems with the EVO3 one?

Re: DSMs Dead once again....

Well everything is progressing really well. I managed to get the head completly off in around 3 hours, it was definatly the gasket that was blown in two spots. It was a factory mitsu one. The EVO3 one is really nice. Its a metal one with 5 layers, and pressure fitting seals. I spent around an hour scraping off the old gasket sealant from the head, it was totally smooth. I got the head on and torqued it to 70 ft lbs. Then i was putting on the cam gears and it turns out that the tensioner pulley decided that it wanted to tighten up. so tomorrow i guess im gonna need to loosen that, unless someone has another way of putting on the cam gears or any tricks for the tensioner pully. We had marked them and zip tied them to hold it to the belt so i didnt have to take off the belt and such.
What made this so easy is that when RRE did a factory head gasket around 10 months ago they took off the bracket that bolts to the intake mani so we didnt have to take off and of the bolts for the manifold, just pulled the head and mani off at the same time (Which REALLY REALLY REALLY sucks because on wednesday i have a Magnus Intake manifold coming. DOH)
Ill post some pics tomorrow after shes done.
You know Im actually kind of glad this happened at the time it did. for two reasons. A) its coming at a time where im not financially unstable. and B) Its another thing that I am learning how to do myself. This car has been a huge learning expirence that i cant trade for anything. I have replaced a tranny, clutch, a head gasket, and much more on this car, and the knowledge i have gained is priceless. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :)

Re: DSMs Dead once again....

My bro showed me how to losen said AutoTensioner. If you have a bench vice take that and remove the Tensioner. Place it in the Vice. Slowly turn the vice in so that it push's the piston back in. After you line up the hole on the pin with the body of the Tensioner...take either a small nail or paperclip slide that threw. And there ya go...no more moving of the tensioner.... Oh taking the intake mani off is kinda fun.... But ya good luck with that tensioner.... Hope I helped.
