boost problem

I've just recently installed a EVO3 turbo w/ 2g install kit from extremepsi.com into my '99 spyder gst and running stock boost from the factory BCS but for some reason it doesn't hold 10psi but would rather go 15+ on which I would stop gas when I see it hit 15. This is gonna sound noobish but I was wondering how the vaccuum lines from the BCS should be hooked up. Its been awhile since I used the stock BCS. I have the TOP nipple of the BCS going to the intake, while the BOTTOM nipple of the BCS going to the turbo wastegate. Could the BCS also be bad?

my mods:
upper and lower intercooler piping w/ ssqv bov
3in catback exhaust
evo3 turbo
air/fuel & boost gauge
apexi safc - settings still at 0
etc...

I think you need to port some stuff? research boost creap

Re: boost problem

It can boost creap even if I'm using the factory BCS?

Guess I'll just have to order a boost controller when I get paid and hope that will resolve my boost issue.

What are you running for an o2 housing?

I'm using the factory 2g o2 housing at the moment.

Re: boost problem

Sounds to me like you have bad boost creep, you should at the very least be running a ported 2G o2 housing, preferably a ported EVOIII or tubular. Get a MBC on there too to simply everything and take advantage of your new turbo.

Is your turbo ported or is it a stock EVOIII 16G?

Re: boost problem

Looks like I'll have to keep an eye out for an evolll o2 housing for sale but until then port my factory one a little I guess. And a boost controller will be on its way as soon as I get paid :D

The evo3 turbo I have is stock at the moment, didn't have time to port it since i had to drop it in for it was my only way of transportation to and from work.

Re: boost problem

I think your cheapest bet would be a tubular o2 housing from eBay, i see lots on there hovering around $100 BIN.

Re: boost problem

You should bypass the factory BCS to get the lowest possible boost.

Okay thanks, I'll have to look into that.

How do you do that?

Re: boost problem

Run a vacuum line from the nipple on the compressor housing(if there is one) to the wastegate, or from the nipple on the elbow off the turbo(if there is one) to the wastegate, or just from the intake manifold to the wastegate.

Going from the intake manifold will give the most consistant boost from day to day, but closest to the turbo compressore housing will give the lowest boost.

It might not help, but all an MBC or BCS or restrictor or anything can do is add boost.

Re: boost problem

I dont see a nipple on the compressor housing on my EVO3 big16 turbo and theres no nipple on the jpipe from the turbo. I used the 2g install kit from extremepsi.com if that helps. Only nipple I see noticable is the one on the turbo wastegate "gold can looking thing."

Re: boost problem

You probably just have to go off the intake manifold then.

Re: boost problem

Okay, thanks. I'll give that a shot and hope for the best till I get my boost controller and port my o2 housing or rather get a new one.

Wait a minute, your saying you can remove your BCS by running from the compresor niple to the wg? Works on a 1g as well, correct? I started to creep again afer a port job and looking for anything simple to fix it. MBC should be on the way... damn e-bay shit. And HG is being installed tomorow.

Re: boost problem

Normally you don't have the factory BCS in the loop after doing a different turbo, different wastegate or MBC. You can't get lower boost than going right from the turbo compressor housing to the wastegate. That is the most direct route, giving the wastegate the most amount of boost the quickest. The most boost the wastegate sees(make it open earlier), the less boost the turbo makes.

The BCS, when activated, bleeds off boost on the way to the wastegate, which makes it run higher boost. On the 2Gs, we used to remove the restrictor in the outlet of the BCS to make it bleed off even more boost and you would sometimes see 19+ psi with no boost controller.

With an MBC or EBC installed, you can't go lower boost than just have a simple vacuum line hooked up.

Re: boost problem

I hooked it up from the intake manifold to the turbo wastegate like you said and I worked flawlessy. It holds 9-10psi all day long.
Well anyways, I got home from work today and my brother told me he found my Joe P MBC so tomorrow after work I'm just gonna hook that up and tune it for 15psi :D.
