Tansfer case wedged into oil pan
I bought a 94awd talon manual 5spd. The motor siezed from previous owner. I was pulling the motor this weekend when I ran into a tough situation and is stopping me from getting the motor out. The tranfer case somehow wedged itself against the oil pan. There was a hole in the oil pan created from the transfer case against it. I suspect this is why the motor went south. Anyways, how can I remove the transfer case and left cv shaft without messing them up? Any suggestions will help.
I also tried jacking up the motor to see if it will create some space to move transfer out. It did not work. Any other suggestion. |
Re: Tansfer case wedged into oil pan
Did you pull the tranny yet cause I believe you gotta drop the tranny case and pull pass CV shaft and intermediate shaft before tranny and engine can come out.
Kinda confused by what you mean messing them up??? |
Re: Tansfer case wedged into oil pan
There are not enought clearence to removed the transfer. The oil pan is directly next to it and wedged. It is not supposed to be like that.
I don't want to jack the motor too much and have the transfer and cv shaft still in the tranny. This might messed up the seal or other things. The left cv shaft can't come out until the transfer is removed. |
Re: Tansfer case wedged into oil pan
Is the transfer case partially dislodged? Is there an abnormal shape to the oil pan there? It should come right out, unless something inside the engine pushed the pan out. At this point it might be time to bend the oil pan in with a hammer. You could always get another oil pan.

Re: Tansfer case wedged into oil pan
No, not even dislodged, completely wedged. I will try to bang the heck out of the oil pan.

You've got nothing to loose at this point. Hammer away.

Re: Tansfer case wedged into oil pan
Either your xfer case is no longer bolted to your tranny or your oil pan moved. There should be a decent amount of clearance if everything is bolted together properly.

Re: Tansfer case wedged into oil pan
I suppose a busted rod could have punched the oil pan out, BFH time! :D

Why not unbolt the driver side cross member and unbolt and remove the oil pan, then removing the x-case. Or is that not going to work either?

Re: Tansfer case wedged into oil pan
Transfer case blocks some of the oil pan bolts.

Re: Tansfer case wedged into oil pan
I finally got the shit apart. A friend came over and he looked at it, went to unbolted the tie rod, balljoint and bang the shit out the left cv shaft. It finally pop out. The next thing is to pull out the motor with the tranfer case on it.
