Cylinder head rebuild questions
So ever since I bought the car there has been valve tick in the head above 5000 RPM. Also I think the valve guides are shot as well because there is black coating on the inside of my exhaust tip which means I am burning oil somewhere.
Basicly my cylinder head needs a rebuild or something or it is going to drive me crazy. I was just wondering what is the best way or process to do a rebuild? I have a very limited budget and can do as much work as I can but doesn't a machine shop have to do some of the work? How can I make this process easier for him and cheaper for me? How much will all this cost? What Machine shop do you recomend? Or should I skip all of this and find someone with a different cylinder head for sale? (Would I really know what I am getting?) Should I wait till the spring and have more money so I can get some other stuff done to the cylinder head? I am getting some performance parts in the mail however I don't know if I should push the engine with the cylinder head the way it is or am I just over worring? Thanks!! |
Re: Cylinder head rebuild questions
to get your cylinder head rebuilt, most of the repairs can be done by the machine shop.
remove your ch from the engine. remove the intake. then take the head to the shop. i recommend you have the head resurfaced, cleaned and new valve stem seals installed. now is the right time to get some aftermarket head parts if you want to upgrade (revised lifters, cams, springs, valves..) expect around 180-200 and plus depending what the machine shop finds neccessary to replace (guides, valve job...) a&k in anoka is my choice. great work. good luck! |
Re: Cylinder head rebuild questions
i would just find another low mile head for like 150-200 bucks.

Re: Cylinder head rebuild questions
When I had my head redone it costed me about $350. I had the head boiled, resurfaced, new valve stem seals put in, and the valves grinded and reseated. I had this done at Lloyds Cylinder Head.
