engine life

Idk if i'm supposed to post here but this is the question. I have a 96 talon awd tsi and it has 198 xxx miles on it and have no idea on the motor. I was wondering how much life does it have left in it, it runs smooth and everything i bought it with a shelled transmission, and i'm getting a transmission for it in a week, think it will be ok?

How about doing a compression test? That's a BIG indicator of what's going on.

Arn't the 96's subject to crankwalk? If so then 198,000 is hella good!

You have until exactly 201,938.65 miles before it fails. Every dsm ever made does this, we call it the DSMY201.93865K problem.

So if i do a compression check what psi should it be for a 2g ?

Re: engine life

I believe around 180 PSI or so was factory, if you're above 160 in all holes you're in good shape.

I did a compression check, 3 have 180 psi the other is barely 160 psi.

for 190k, your motor seems to be in the better half.

You may be in the same boat i am, check your coolant level often, see if your losing oil or coolant from the engine. If your not losing fluids, your clutch doesn't go out on you too often(normal driving) and your gears don't grind. She's good as gold! :D

Thats not bad at all for your engine. I'm guessing the 160 was in hold #2 which always runs the leanest (2nd from driver's side).
