tire installers?
anyone knows any tire places that that charges cheaper than 20 bucks to install tires? i'm trying to get me some tires from the internet because it's cheaper, but if i bring it to discount tires shop they want 20 per tire, and if i buy from them it's 11 bucks.i know 9 bucks more but if i do 4 tires that's' 36 bucks that i could use to pay my entry fee at rockfalls. just thought i'd ask.

Re: tire installers?
Wal-Marts and Sams Clubs do it for $5/tire. I'd only go that route if you don't care about your wheels though b/c I'd guess they don't have the best equipment or employees.

Re: tire installers?
I'd stay away from Wal-Mart personally. We had a friend who worked at one, and had them put his wheels on... needless to say, the came off on the hwy.
Bottom line, you get what you pay for most of the time. I woudn't skimp here either. |
Re: tire installers?
I have found that the internet is not always cheaper if you price around to different locations making sure that you include all related costs if you were to purchase the tires online.

Re: tire installers?
Remember you have to pay shipping for internet tires, but tax for local tires.

Re: tire installers?
Why not just ask discoutn tire to match the price. If you'd buy them online for $200 for a set of 4 and another $80 to mount them vs paying $250 at a location here and another $60 to mount them. That's a $30 swing, have you asked if discount tire would match the overall cost?

Re: tire installers?
A member on this board is giving me an insanely great deal on tires, mounting/balancing, and alignment for my S2000, but I'll let him toss out the offer if he wants since I don't feel comfortable volunteering his services.

I deal with this everyday, I even debated buying my tires online cause I can usually find them cheaper than my cost through my employer..but I decided not to because of the extra fees associated with it. |
Re: tire installers?
I found a better deal at a Firestone dealer than I did at Discount Tire, or anywhere online. Granted they were having a "Buy 3 get 1 free" sale, which brought the price down. I was set on the tires I wanted for my truck and Discount didn't even carry the tires. Tire Rack had them, but after shipping and mounting it would have been about the same price, but alot more hastle. So if you know what tires you want, and have time to wait for a sale, you might find better deals elsewhere.
Plus, when I bought them from the dealer, they gave me free lifetime rotatation (and I'll have to check but it might include balancing too.) And one more thing, never buy the replacement warranty thing. 9 times out of ten you wont even use it, and they wouldn't offer it to you if they weren't making huge margins on it anyway. You're better off saving your money, and if something happens, just buy a new tire. |
Re: tire installers?
I buy online because I usually do my research first and go into the tire shop to ask for a particular tire. They usually dick me around and tell me what tire I really want because they dont carry the one I asked for.

Re: tire installers?
Sears offers mounting and balancing of tires and rims under 17" for $9.99. This also includes lifetime balancing and rotation of your tires for the life of the tires. Sears also offers the buy 3 get one free deals, as well as price matching of all local competitors.

The 9.99 is for standard passenger car tires less than 17 inches or greater than 50 aspect ratio sidewall. It also doesnt include truck tires. For "low profile", greater than 16 inch, or truck tires it is 13.99 per tire to mount and balance if purchased from them. But yes it does include free rotation and balance for the life of the tire. |

Nice generalization. Sears is actually equipped with tire machines that have no metal to metal contact. Yeah, accidents happen and yeah it is a bitch to get your money but you got it right? There is a standard in the tire industry for certain services. You are going to pay pretty much the same price no matter what tire chain you go to. 2.99 per valve stem is the going rate, $2 disposal is prefectly normal too. I am not here to argue about which shop is better, I just know from experience at my Sears location that we have some top notch techs that know exactly what they are doing. |
