Head install ???
I was installing a newer head with replaced valves and it has been cleaned up good. If I am running the 3 layer metal head gasket would I still have to have the head machined? Will It be fint to throw it on like it is if it was taken off of a good running car.

In short, bring your head to a machine shop, tell them what you are running for a headgasket, and go from there. Of course, now 15 people will chime in after me and say how they swapped it with no ill effects. My question to you is what is wrong with the composite? I've made well over 400awhp (here), 500fwhp (elite) on the composite at 37+psi boost...whats your setup? |
Re: Head install ???
Tis true, I was planning on going with a MLS gasket or something nicer like that. Then I saw what Swanny was using and totally changed my mind. They tell you that composite gaskets will go bad if you up the boost but thats just cus they want your money!

Re: Head install ???
I never did anything extra for putting in a metal headgasket, but then again I've only blown one composite, and that was at 27psi or so. Most won't need the MLS, but if you're in there already, it doesn't hurt.

Re: Head install ???
I have a forged up 6 bolt. i already have the mls gasket so they are good if i already have it right. Do I need to get the head redone if I use this asket then or not. It doesnt seem as though I do.

Re: Head install ???
the head shouldn't probably be redone, i just did a motor rebuilt on mine in july and bought a mls headgasket as well and it works just fine, but some ARP Head Studs will be a good combo with the gasket.

Re: Head install ???
If the car has higher miles and the head hasnt been checked for flattness you might as well have it checked since it is off. It is cheap, and acutally with a straight edge and feeler gauge set you can check it yourself.

Re: Head install ???
I got the ARP's and ill check it myself first. Thanks for the help.
