2g head bolts reusable?
Are the head bolts on a 2g turbo reusable?
|
Re: 2g head bolts reusable?
No, buy a new set from mitsu. Torque to yield bolts for the win.

Are there really any stock head bolts that aren't stetch to yield?? I know just about every car I have ever read about or worked on said to replace with ARP's or get new head bolts due to the stretch to yield factor. |
Re: 2g head bolts reusable?
The 3000gt's are re-useable but I never do.

Re: 2g head bolts reusable?
1g head bolts should be re-usable but if you want to run over 20psi ARPs are a cheap upgrade.

Re: 2g head bolts reusable?
ARP's are definitely re-useable.

Re: 2g head bolts reusable?
My car is not modified at all, so the performance aspect is not realy a factor for me. So ok to reuse????

Re: 2g head bolts reusable?
NO. once they are torqued down they STRETCH (yield). if you slap already stretched bolts back onto your engine, dont be surprised if and when your headgasket blows.

Re: 2g head bolts reusable?
Why are so many DSMers such cheapasses and aren't willing to spend $80 in order to keep their engines running longer than 3 weeks?

$80 can save a lot of headache.

Re: 2g head bolts reusable?
I've found that they are reuseable. Not to hold down the head. Rather to hold the engine on a stand while you work on it. I did however have to use some washers to make it work.............................Hope that helps.

Re: 2g head bolts reusable?
Don't reuse headbolts..........Once they're torqued to spec and taken off....they aren't suppose to be used again. Aftermarkets can be different.
