1g AWD Sway bars

Does the 1g awd front sway bar need any improvement? I see you can get a complete replacement from RM. I was thinking of getting their front and rear sway bar kit, and wondering if a new front one is even needed.

Many people would agree that the front doesn't need any improvement. I actually thought that the RRE site it said this.

I just checked, they do say it is braced well from factory.

Braced well and having a stiff enough front antisway bar are two totally different things. Basically, installing just a rear bar will be a big improvment, but if you can afford to do both the results will be that much better. Swaybars really improve the handling of DSM's, definitely one of my favorite mods I ever did.

If you plan on doing any sort of racing with the car that involves turning I would suggest at least upgrading the rear sway bar. Given the nature of AWD these cars always exhibit understeer. Stiffening up ther rear suspension with a bigger sway bar will help combat that.

Re: 1g AWD Sway bars

Yes, do the rear sway bar, but the front is good from the factory. Suspension Techniques is supposed to be slightly better than RM for a 1g, 2g is opposite.

Re: 1g AWD Sway bars

Suspension Techniques makes a good bar for the 1G's, thats what I used.

I'm buying the suspension techniques sway bar kit from summit, along with the ingalls rear camber kit.

I noticed little difference when i installed my whiteline front sway bar.

Re: 1g AWD Sway bars

Hopefully by kit you mean just the rear. The front is actually an add-on kit, so you end up with 2 front sway bars and makes the front too stiff.

I did get the Suspension Techniques front and rear kit. So the front gets too stiff eh? hmm...

I thought you already had that... what stage did you get?

Re: 1g AWD Sway bars

I had Suspension Techniques Front and Rear sways on my 1G. I noticed a ton of improvement with the rear bar installed, and then when adding the front I noticed a good difference, but not as much as the rear. Also, the front bar was a PITA to install, you have to drill out your stock control arm, and the bar then hangs down fairly low. The rear was a PITA as well, but I installed it by myself on my car. I helped my brother install one on his car, and with two people it went much better. You have to flex the swaybar just slightly to get it into position, and having one person on each end makes this much easier.

On a side note, I did this with the rest of the suspension completely stock. It was mushy as hell, and and the swaybars basically transformed the car. Great bang for your buck!

Long story short, the GVR4 one I sent was so messed up, it was worthwhile for me to send the one that came out of the car. I got a stage 3 + chromoly shift forks.

SO Scheides, the front wasn't "too stiff" with the added bar, as JET has mentioned?
