I just saw that an the DSM link forum. looks like that evo's going to have to take a trip to LSE to see what its actually making.

800-850awhp on our dyno I would guess. Maybe 875. Still, shit ton of power, awesome car!

sweetness. Buschur had that turbo on a car for a while & didn't have a ton of luck. He swaped to a gt42r & made more power. Wonder what the deal was?

And you all were saying the GT45 was too big of a turbo when I planned on using it a year ago...

Uhh I would bet it is. The only reason that car is fast on the street is its gearing. The spool up is horrible for a "street car".

AMS is using 2.3L strokers, Buschur probably wasn't.

Re: sweet merciful crap, 1000awhp evo

True, I'm sure they went with the 2.0 originally. Then DynoFlash Al had them build a 2.3 w/ a gt42r setup & it made it into the 900whp club, and ended up doing the same.

Re: sweet merciful crap, 1000awhp evo

last I heard, buschur was.

gt45 on your car slowbubba, would be like a supra running some gt55, except they can actually spool these, and still have a bit of a usable powerband (i-6 ftw). Most of them are dyno queens, and won't hit a power "spike" till last minute. Think of your poewrband, and get back down to earth man. Unless that's what you really want.

I can't believe they revved that stroker so high. Watch out for flying metal!

Re: sweet merciful crap, 1000awhp evo

Shit my 42r is one of the smallest and makes 22psi @ 7k in 3rd gear in my 2.0L. I've been reving it to about 9k, just havent checked where the full 35psi comes in full. I would hate to see what a GT45 would lag like.

Says in the thread that it was on the lowest correction factor and it still pegged it. I would have to assume their dyno would not be 200+whp higher than a DD Dyno.

Either way its a lot of power no matter how you stack it.

Oh, see I don't mess around with "correction" factors that much, just atmospheric.
All I know that I've never seen an awd dynojet within 15% of a dynamics. Only way to truely know is to have it run here, and that isn't likely.
So lets say it makes 1100awhp.
take off 15%
935awhp here...shit ton of power, but I would rather have something with a powerband, I hope they plan on running nitrous. Woohoo, 1k powerband!

yea, its ONLY making, over 600awhp for the last third of the powerband. slow indeed!

Its not bad, but it could be better if the turbo was a wee bit smaller. That 600hp is from 6k+...good powerband I guess.
The important question is when does the next gear start? When they shift it at the 8500ish it is looking like for redline, when does the next gear start? 6k? If it does, then its perfect.

I never thought in a million years the Evo's would turn out to be like the supra's.

LOL, is that a compliment or a slam? :)

It's impressive how much power they're making but I'm more impressed with stuff like the "Evo Vs Viper" (supercharged viper by the way) video under the "Customer Cars" section.
http://robispec.com/main.html

Maybe if I road in the car or drove it I'd appreciate it more, but that kind of power band doesn't look very useful. I wonder what's it like to drive it? The tach needle must swing up like a boost gauge when the power hits. Be ready to shift. hahaha

Whether the power is usable or not, it's still very impressive to make 200+ hp/cylinder.

What rpm was the engine spun too?

I wouldn't call it a slam. It is just when the evo's got released, I figured they would be mostly used in the auto-x world, not so much drag. Then all the nutty post dsmer's and other shops got their hands on them and it was all aboard for dragging (which they have set some pretty impressive records for how "young" the platform is to the U.S.) and the power levels keep going up.

Personally I think a gt45 is useless on a car that will see street duty, but in the end if its what the customer really wants, they can have it. I think the car would be much more "streetable" with a AMS gt42 setup, granted the peak numbers aren't as large, but I would imagine the car has better street manors, let along being able to get back on boil easier at the strip.
Don't get me wrong, AMS is doing a fantastic job with the EVO's, and they are a very good shop, but I just think this setup is just a case of someone wanting big numbers.
Just my $.02, I would still like to drive the car to see how it pulls, I bet it is alot of fun.
I would also like to see how it compares to one if their GT42 cars.

Re: sweet merciful crap, 1000awhp evo

Is there a chart out there with RPM? That thing looks like it is hitting full spool at 80mph and 5252RPM would be at 58mph?

xveganxcowboyx 07-20-2006 03:02 PM

Re: sweet merciful crap, 1000awhp evo

Oh, wow, I just realised that was speed, not RPM. I thought they were revving to 8,800rpm.
