Opinions of the following turbos...
OK im gonna list of some of the more common dsm used turbos just post your opinion of each of them or some of them or whatever... Just looking for responces like what is your overall opinion either from what youve heard about them or what you have expirenced with them. IM likely missing a couple but add if you want.
T-25 T-28 14b Small 16G Big 16G 18G 20G 50Trim 60Trim 60-1 GT35R GT42R |
Re: Opinions of the following turbos...
I loved my old hahn super 20g. We had a new PTE 50 trim before also and had a terrible time getting a tune on pump gas with it. It always knocked. GT35R-we'll see pretty quick.

Re: Opinions of the following turbos...
big 16g was a good turbo. 60-1 waste of time imho. I'd just go with the scm61. gt42r is a dyno numbered turbo, not too street friendly, but likes higher trap speeds. gt35 is a good turbo, basically a 61 (from what I know). 20g is about the same as the new evo twin-scroll turbos, in terms of power.

Re: Opinions of the following turbos...
I loved my 20G. Id say 20G or 50trim FTW on a street car.

SMALL T-28 SLIGHTLY LARGER 14b Solid, but small and stock Small 16G getting larger, reliable Big 16G better off with an evo 16g 18G Old school, works well 20G I like pte 50 trims better 50Trim Good street turbo 60Trim Decent turbo, 50 trim is better 60-1 Horrible compressor map GT35R Great street setup, tad large for some people GT42R Despite what people think, not a street turbo. |
Re: Opinions of the following turbos...
T67
Good FP 3575 Better |
Re: Opinions of the following turbos...
T-25
Torquey T-28 Why bother? 14b Enough for 10s in the 1/4 mile. Small 16G Noticeable lag. Big 16G Sounds a bit big. 18G All the power of a 16G with the lag of a 20G. 20G Unstreetable. 50Trim Is this a T3/T4? 60Trim 10 more trim than the 50-trim. 60-1 Good for a low boost V8s. GT35R Is this some new fangled turbo? Is the "R" for race? GT42R You got a semi there? |
Re: Opinions of the following turbos...
Never been a fan of the 50-trim, but I think either the Big/EVO 16G or 20G makes the perfect street turbo.

Re: Opinions of the following turbos...
T-25 = Gay
T-28 = Just get an Evo III 16g 14b = Good starter small 16g = Why? big 16g = Might as well go Evo III 16g Evo III 16g = Good "mild street" turbo, lower power goals 18g = Evo III's are cheaper and make the same power 20g = good turbo, but its too fuckin expensive 50 trim = good alternative to the way more expensive 20g 60 trim = might as well go 60-1 60-1 = good for a bit more power GT35R = on the big side, I wouldnt street it GT42R = too damn big |
Re: Opinions of the following turbos...
Tom, a 50 trim or a 61mm most likely fits your needs for going through the gears. The 50 trim might spool better in reverse. :)

Re: Opinions of the following turbos...
I'll only comment on the ones I've personally used.
14b: decent for a stock turbo, holds decent boost, and until you ride in a car with something bigger, you're sure it's the fastest thing out there! holds 18-20psi to redline just fine. Very reliable. Small 16g: probably what the 14b should have been, except for the boost creep. Nice little turbo, spools excellently and provides good power. My 2g came with one on it, and I was really happy with it while I had it. Had shaft play along the line of the shaft like crazy, yet hardly burned any oil and still spooled awesome. 20g's: Bastard 20g: big power in a small package. Spools similar to a big/evo16g. made 280whp @ 22psi @ LSE, 338whp @ 25psi@ DB. Hahn Super20g: 20g power w/ kick-ass top-end. Spools much slower than my bastard 20g. ~4000rpms. Made 280 whp on a mustang dyno @ 18psi on pump gas The Td06 20g is my favorite turbo in the world, because of how reliable they are. Anytime I look at a used T3/T4 setup it 'just got rebuilt' or some shit. There are reliable cases too. SCM61: big power for little money. Probably my next turbo. |
Re: Opinions of the following turbos...
Ive only run a t25, 14b, 20g, and a 50 trim.
t25 = Worthless 14b = Best bang for the buck if you are looking for 12's. 20g (td05h) = I didnt really care for it. I was expecting more top end. 50 trim = Pulls better than the 20g without much of a difference in spool. My next turbo will have a 60-1 compressor. Im undecided on the specifics. |
Re: Opinions of the following turbos...
I like my SCM61. It sounds cool when I idle.

14b nice little stock turbo 16g not really any different than a 14b 50 trim - excellent street turbo for a 2.0 SCM61 - getting on the edge of my definition of streetable for a 2.0, great for a 2.4 T67 - probably my next turbo on the 2.4 if this one pukes. My car isn't all that streetable anyway, so screw it :D |
Re: Opinions of the following turbos...
Im liking these opinions.
Well heres mine so far: T-25 - great turbo until 3000 rpms. T-28 - Little bit bigger compressor and exhaust wheel. Cops cant tell the difference between this and stock. 14b - Heard good things, but looks way too small. Small 16G - Decent Spoolup holds boost well. Big 16G - More of these have been sold then Beatles records. 18G - Acura Integra turbo all the way. 20G - I know Slowwhite was having major issues with this one. 50Trim - The first time i drove with this on my old GSX i was freaked the fuck out when it pulled. But soon realised that its a lag monster on an automatic dsm. We will soon find out what she does with a FMIC and a Manual Tranny. 60Trim - No clue what one feels like. GT35R - Big expensive turbo, heard great things though. GT42R - Serious baby eater. and if i wanted 900+ HP this is the one i would likely go with. But who wants 900 HP? |
Re: Opinions of the following turbos...
You will be happy with the 50 trim on a manual. I consider it the perfect 2.0 street turbo.

Re: Opinions of the following turbos...
I cant wait, but Im going to do this one right. Im only missing one peice which is a 3" intake pipe, if anyone knows where i can get one for cheap let me know please. I have all of the piping (welded and painted) for the FMIC, the couplers and t-bolt clamps, and the motor is ready for it, once i get the Intake pipe, ill install everything, and take it directly to the dyno to tune dsmlink. I have waited 4-5 months just staring at that turbo in my room, next month i will have enough extra money to get everything done as well as get a good set of tires.
