Turbo selection question.

We have a 2.4L with 8.8 pistons crower L2 cams+springs

I need suggestions on what turbo to get.

This car needs to spool quickly. It's going to be a daily driver, BUT i would also like something that can get 400+ AWHP. So maybe a turbo rated to 500HP?

Another thing is what type of manifold to get? we have a stock 1G one now, so its gotta go.

We also have to decide on which way to swing here: mitsu? T3/T4? One of those SBR Evo3 manifolds look pretty cool.

Imagine that you are starting from square one, which way should i go? And also, we dont want to get really pricy: maybe a 50 trim or a 60 trim. Those should spool prettty quickly on a 2.4. What do you think? I'm pretty sure that we dont need ball bearing and thats way expensive too.

Thanks

What do you consider fast spooling? My 50trim hits 18psi at around 4k. I love the turbo, but really don't think I'll ever want anything laggier.

Re: Turbo selection question.

We(collectively) are used to 14b/16g series of turbos, we like how the respond to RPMs.

We also understand that we are going to have some lag if we want high HP, we just want to have the least culture shock of lag as possible....if you get my drift

drift....what a dirty word after FF3

I have the Big evo III 16g ported and polished. I like it alot and its very affordable. It also is rated at or around 400 hp.

I fully understand the affordability and the performance possibilities of the evo3.

Thanks for your vote, but if nobody can suggest anything we are thinking 50, 54, or 57 trim so far

50 trim is a good place to start.

With a 8.8 2.4L you are going to spool things very quick. CVD's 2.3 with a 50 trim felt like a 14b. He could pass in 5th gear. I vote you look into the turbo sale that is going on at PTE.

SCM61

The other thing I have to say is that you are talking about comp wheels like they matter in "spool". The truth is; not so much. You should be asking about what turbine housing to use. Anything with a T3 .63 turbine housing will spool very fast.

400whp on pump gas? Race gas? Pump/alky?

I say go big or go home, something with a 61mm compressor on it, SCM61 or similar. 50-trim will spool very very nice for ya with the 2.4 though.

74mm turbo. No other way.

I have a SBR G60 60 trim that spools in the 4000 range that I might be willing to sell. I also have a SBR cast manifold as well.

Re: Turbo selection question.

I've heard some "bad" things about 54 and 57 trims. Not really bad things, just that 50 or 60 trims are better choices. I would say go for an SBR 50 trim or slowbubblecar's 60 trim. Either way you will be making some decent power. I too have a extra manifold, its an unported uncracked 2g manifold. If you want it, shoot me a PM.

Toss a 50 trim on it and you will be happy. I have the SCM61 on my car. It is still very streetable, but not a comparison to a 16g.

Re: Turbo selection question.

400awhp on race or pump gas? It sounds like you are looking for something that will have some throttle response, so something like a 50-trim or GT30R would work. But it would be hard to make 400awhp without something in the 61mm size range on pump gas. The ball-bearing versions of the 50-trim aren't too expensive. The Mitsu exhaust housing versions will spool faster, but give up some HP. The Mitsu housings work fairly good on the 50-trim, they get a bit too small and restrictive when you start getting into 61mm turbos.

The car will be running on 92/93 octane

How about one of these turbos? http://www.slowboyracing.com/shop.php?sid=&cat=1267

this intercooling kit http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=154&

And this manifold http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=1343&

With a T3, what exhaust do i need to get? is there an O2 housing adapter so we can use a kit exhaust? I'm new with T3 stuff, used to mitsu exhaust housings and such.

If you want a full t3/t4 setup, I have that brand new setup that is on the white race car at my place. It will be off this weekend as the car is being parted out this weekend.

Some buddies and I just bolted up my FP3052 tonight.

That's what I'd get if I were you. ;)

FP3052 all the way, you won't regret it.
