Where do I go from here?

I'm in the process of building up my 98gsx and I'd like some opinions. I'm shooting for 300-400whp. Right now I'm sitting with:

-ported/polished big 16g
-custom 3'' exhaust
-injen intake
-act 2100 clutch
-ported 2g mani
-40mm hks w/g
-joe p mbc (boosting about 10psi to be safe)
-s/w boost gauge
-tokico alluminas
-ksport 2'' lowering springs
-HKS ssqbov

As you can tell, I'm deffinatly not at 300-400whp :D But I was wondering what should come next on my list. I'm going to have to rebuild the head because I'm burning some oil (valve seals are bad I think). So all my internals will be upgraded as I find the parts. I know if I get a walbro 255 and 550cc's I'll need an EMS. If I get an EMS I'm planing on going w/ dsmlink just because I'll need it when I rebuild the head. Am I safe to say that a fmic is a good next part? I'd really like to get rid of my stock and steal braded piping.

If your shooting for that much hp your gonna need at least 650's if not 720's, and an Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator will be mandatory. DSMlink was the BEST investment I've ever made for a car hands down. For those hp goals a FMIC will be necessary as well. That clutch will not hold to any abuse and your going to need to clip your turbo. your going to need a better bov then the stock 2g also. my $.02 oh and have you checked your engine for crankwalk?

as far as I know, you do not need a fpr. I hear that helps, but it's more-so for idling. Not too sure on that one though. As for tuning, I am sure you can make good power on just an safc2. EMS is way overkill for your power output, and a lot of money to spend for that.

Sorry, forgot to add the bov to the list. I've hear lots of people making up to 500 whp on 550's. That's the most recomended setup I've heard of with a big 16g. I'm thinking a fmic should be next because if I upgrade my fuel system then I'll need a good tune. Which means I'll need dsmlink too. I'd rather build my car up some before throwing 20 lbs of boost at it on stock piping.

I would do DSMlink then the FMIC. You need some sort of fuel control even at your current level. Then comes the FMIC, then the 50 trim. 2 launches after the 50 trim, then you need a new clutch :D

I've never heard of anyone with a 16g and 550's that makes 500hp. 16g's just cant flow the cfm, maybe that much hp it posable with nitrous but i really doubt it with only 550's. If your not going to buy a FPR then don't buy the 255, buy the 190 or your stock fpr will get over run.

Re: Where do I go from here?

The only way you are going to get 500whp out of 550cc injectors is if you have 6+ of them, methanol injection or a nitrous wet kit. A 16G won't make anywhere near that HP anyways either, without a lot of nitrous. I maxed a set of 680cc fuel injectors on a DSM a couple weeks ago on pump gas. It was putting down a little over 400awhp(normal Dyno Dynamics numbers) at 19 psi, they would have supported a fair amount more power on race gas, but you have to run these motors pretty rich on pump gas to keep from knocking.

You don't absolutely have to get a fancy FPR, if you put a fuel pump in that overruns the regulator. It is nice, but you can usually tune around any overrun problems with a decent tuning system.

Re: Where do I go from here?

I never said I was planning on getting 500whp. My first post says that I'm looking to get 300-400whp. If you read threads like ttp://dsmstyle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11828 you can see that people have easily made 420+whp on 550's. Would you guys agree that dsmlink comes before a fmic?

I would recommend that your next mod will be a winter beater car. If you do not have one yet!

I 2nd that or winterize the shit out of your car. Why not got with the 650's anyways? there not that much more expensive then the 550's

Re: Where do I go from here?

Making 420+whp on 550s takes race gas, A/Fs 10-15% leaner than you would normally run on pump gas, a much higher than stock base fuel pressure and a Dynojet. 550s should be more than enough for a 16G though.

Winter beater is just term allot of folks used to say get a cheap reliable car. You should know and read on this forum that the dsm does break down.
