Ben Roethlisberger's Crash

From SI.com:
"Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger lacked both a helmet and a valid Pennsylvania motorcycle license when he crashed Monday, according to Pittsburgh police sources, but he did have a prior warning: The Steelers told him last year that continued riding might affect his contract. -- Pittsburgh Post-Gazette"

Is it really surprising that he didn't have a license either? I wonder what kind of changes this will now bring to contracts of Ben and other NFL players with what they can and can't do in their personal time.

He bike looked fricken sweet though!

Personally I think he's a fucking idiot for blowing off all of the warnings about not wearing a helmet, especially with his on-field presence for the Steelers at risk when he crashs.

yea I saw that bike too.. It looked nice. Did you hear about how many surgays(spelling) he has had? Like 3 on his jaw and missing a couple of teeth.

I agree with Jakey about the helmet issue. In my opinion, I think it should be mandatory for all motorcycle riders to wear a helment, PERIOD! Why should vehicle drivers have to buckle up and they are inside a vehicle and cyclists get off without having to wear a helmet. Completely dumb laws. All I can say is that big Ben had it coming to him for not thinking saftey.

I always used a helmet when I had my old Suzuki, no matter how far the distance of trip.

If he would have worn a helmet he would not have:

A broken jaw
ALL teeth knocked out
His skull would be in one peice

Oh well, too bad for him, how many of you guys actually think he will play again?

He'll play again. I think that's a given until be breaks a arm or leg in a very bad way.

They are saying that he shouldn't miss any playing time. I am guilty of riding without a helmet at times. Usually a short distance and I am pretty paranoid when I do. 95% of the time I wear a helmet though.

Other than saftey, one of the other big reasons I wore a helmet was just to keep from swallowing bugs. Some of the bigger bugs hurt when they smuck you too.

I always wear my helmet too not only for safety, but also to keep the wind out of my face and to keep the bugs off me! My faceshield gets pretty nasty with bugs sometimes, last thing I want is to be walking into a restaurant and/or store with bugs stuck all over me.

I really don't feel sorry for Ben at all since he was riding illegally (even after being warned by the police and his team) and wasn't obeying common safety sense. My Dad and uncle are still alive because of motorcycle helmets.

Same here. It feels nice to ride without a helmet for short distances every once in a while, especially on hot days but its other people that scare me because they dont always see you.

I wear mine always except if I go to the gas station a block away.

Someone was selling a "Ben" replica helmet on ebay. It was an empty helmet box! Funny as hell. Hopefully Darwin catches up on idiots like that.
