Tranny Slipping?
My 97 gst, with a 3'' turbo back exhaust, upgrade plug wires, a new act2100 clutch just installed not a thousand miles ago, and just a few days ago the clutch-slave and master replaced, system bled and adjusted to oem specifications.. does this today.
I'm driving around not hard driving at all, traffic driving. And in 2nd gear the rpm's climed almost maybe 700 and the car didn't go any faster, and it does this in every gear, with the exception of 1st wich pulls hard. Now I'm wondering why this is happening since I just replaced and had adjusted the clutch and parts. 2,3,4 and 5 all do this, the car is still driveable, but it doesnt pull at all in these gears, and the rpm's all go up but the car doesnt gain any speed, it will but slightly, it spools my turbo when the rpm's go up. If I keep on the gas it will still go forward but weakly, and from a 2nd to 3rd shift the, what feels like something slipping, happens almost immediatly upon hitting the gas. Any thoughts at all??? I had the cluthc slave and master replaced by Evolution Motorsports in St Cloud MN. Thanks for any input. |
Re: Tranny Slipping?
Did you resurface the flywheel when you put in the new clutch? How far off the floor does the pedal engage?

Re: Tranny Slipping?
when i had my tranny and clutch done the shop never adjusted for the aftermarket clutch. The play in the pedal was 1/4 of the way from the top when the clutch engaged so it wasnt clamping right when I got on it... So I brought it back had the pedal adjusted and now everything is aok. The clutch engages now 1/3 off the floor.
I have a DXD Southbend clutch and stage 2 tranny I hope this helps you a little |
Re: Tranny Slipping?
I am not mechanic but sounds like your tranny is begining to be shot. From my experience with automatics, when the tranny do go out. Your car will over rev but you won't be accelerating as fast. GL!

It doesn't sound like a tranny problem to me.. It sounds like your clutch is slipping! 1st gear is much shorter than any other gear so it's less prone to slipping. My car had a bad clutch and it eventually would slip a little in first but it got much worse with longer gears. I.E 4th / 5th were horrible. Also if you didn't get your flywheel resurfaced to a .610 step - the clutch can't properly "grip" the flywheel. Are you sure you don't have oil on the clutch? If your rear main seal is leaking, that could cause a problem like this. |

+1 on the step height, or a really glazed flywheel....was it resurfaced?
