Building a manual boost controler
Has anyone ever tried this and made it work? I am trying to make one. I bought a 1/4" ball barring and was at a hardware looking at the brass fittings. I found a brass T and on the package it said It had an ID of ¼” but when I put the ball barring in, it had way too much space between the fitting and the ball or that’s what it seemed like to me. Just curious if anyone has gotten this to work. Thanks!

Just realized that it would probably help if I showed everyone what I am trying to build

Try filling it with RTV.

Re: Building a manual boost controler
My brother made one and it works perfectly. He used something different than an allen head to turn it in and out though so it could be done by hand.

Re: Building a manual boost controler
Just out of curiosity where did he get the parts for his? Or what parts did he use? I went to the hardware store and they didn't carry those specific parts.

Re: Building a manual boost controler
He works at an ace hardware and just grabbed them off the shelf. I am not sure what exact parts he used though. He isn't on here much anymore.

Re: Building a manual boost controler
But from the looks of it the ball never sees the inside of the T fitting but it sits in the nipple fitting which would be smaller then the t fitting. And all its doing is plugging the little hole so that its harder for the boost to get throught to the WG.

Re: Building a manual boost controler
Ok so that makes more sense. For some Odd reason I thought the ball had to clear the other opening. So really I don't have to worry about the space around the ball and making sure it is a tight fit. THANKS!!
I will go to a hartware store soon and try this out with this in mind. |
Re: Building a manual boost controler
I too have considered machining my own MBC, from scratch, for the fun of it. The only thing I couldn't make would be the ball bearing.

Re: Building a manual boost controler
My brother got everything from his work so I assume just about any ace will have the parts needed. The one I am using worked fine with no spike issues or anything.

Re: Building a manual boost controler
Ok I built one finaly I am trying to figure out where to mount it in the engine bay. I will get a picture of it soon. The one problem is that once in a while it will have a boost spike. I have it set at 10psi but every once in a while it creeps up to 12 then back down, that is what is called a boost spike right? How do i fix this?
I think though I need to find a different spring though. This one is kind of touchy. Anyway it is a lot cheeper then buying one. BTW everything is stock on the car (for now anyway) 10 psi is a safe setting on it right now right? |
Re: Building a manual boost controler
10PSI is what you car should runs stock.
