No Oil = Miata!! FUCK!

Man this shit sucks.

Alright, so like 2 months ago, right as I was finishing up building the DSM, my Neon decided to spin a rod bearing. I ordered up some new King Rod bearings for it and they showed up like 3 days ago finally. I got the neon longblock all back together and am awating an engine stand to put the motor in.

Now yesterday I am driving on my way to work and was just driving down Radio Drive in woodbury doing like 40mph after a light, decide to get on it a little bit in 3rd gear, hit 15psi, and hold onto it till about 75, look down, and my oil light is on solid color. I kill the car and coast to the next turn. Get out, check oil, its empty. Oh great, somethings fucked. Look under the car thinking maybe an oil cooler line fell off or something, don't notice anything. Go to the front of the car, and look near the oil filter area, and it appears the oil filter gasket blew out. So I take off the oil filter, and upon closer examination, the threaded part of the filter decided to pop out (like a safety tab thing) and the gasket blew out. So I walk to my girlfriends house 2 miles away and call work. My girlfriends sister gives me a ride to work.

Get to work, and just work till we close. Call the girlfriend to come and pick me up, and I grabbed a new filter and 5qrts of oil. Go back to my car, throw the new filter on there, and put oil in it. I pull the fuel pump fuse and crank it over for 15-20 seconds to build some oil pressure. Put the fuse back in and it fires right up. I check to see if it is knocking, and it doesn't seem to be, so I get back in and rev it to like 3000rpm a few times, everything appears to be good. I drive it home, and it seems fine. Come out the next morning and check my oil, its full. Go to start it, starts right up but sounds a little funny for the first few seconds. Go to drive it, get up the street, and it starts knocking motherfuckingsonofabitchfuckcuntwhoregahhhhfuckdsm 's is whats going through my head. Kill it, get out, check oil, make sure there is nothing else that would be making the noise. Nope, its fucked. Who would have though that 3-5 seconds of no oil pressure under boost would spin a king rod bearing?

So now I'm hoping on parting or selling the DSM and hopefully taking out a loan and buying a 99up Miata, and a beater car before winter. FUCK!

If you run the oil out of a 99 Miata it will take a big shit on you as well.

awww Nate =/ REBUILD IT! :P I'm sure I could use some parts but I'd rather you rebuilt the motor and kept on driving it :D If you want, let me know what you plan to do. I might be able to help tear it down if that's what it comes down to. I think I owe ya a favor.

My TSi lost oil pressure a while back, but I instantly turned the car off, and it was on the freeway at 20% throttle...no harm done, drove it for another 10k before I sold the damn thing.....got to hand it to mitsu for building a solid bottom end.

In addition to adding an Oil pressure gauge to my galant vr4 (stock galant=no oil pressure gauge) I am adding a freaken BUZZER for the low light switch, I dont want to ever ever ever be in a position where if i had just turned it off a couple seconds sooner, would have saved the motor

Do you live in Woodbury?

This thread is making me think about doing a mod to the oil system. I could put an oil pressure switch and a relay on my car to shut off the engine if I lose oil pressure.

No, I live in Cottage Grove, but I might as well live in woodbury, I work there and my girlfriend lives there.

my oil filter gasket had popped off 5 times in my old laser and no engine damage happened whatsoever. You just gotta be quick and not be under boost when it happens!

Yea it would be easy to hookup, would be a good idea, especially since I have the oil filter relocated and have extra oil hoses that could fail.
