It looks to be legit, but that little voice in my head is screaming "scam." Has anyone else on any of the national DSM boards been talking about it? I'd think it would go for more than its at right now. Would make for an awesome project car.

I don't know, look how dirty and worn the footwell in the interior pick is. Also the wheel looks pretty corroded around the rim. Too bad it wasn't listed earlier, I was out there 3 days ago!

Seems kinda shady. Looks like a scam to me. I'd want to know more about where he found it. But if its legit, I'd drop some money on that. Maybe we all can call dibs on parts then pitch in and buy it. :p

No title, means no deal in my book!

Odometer roll back or maybe just a broken odometer? I am hard pressed to believe there is a 12-16 year old car with like a summers worth of miles on it.

Hard for me to believe too, but look at the engine bay shot... I forgot what the cap is for in the rear of the engine, the one that says you should clean it before removing it...

Well on my car I know that thing is FAR from white even after cleaning it with engine cleaner. The one in that picture seems to be in perfect condition still.

--EDIT--

Also look at the shift knob, its still shiny and new looking on the top and you can read the gears.

On my car which has a mint interior has a worn shift knob and its hard to read the gear numbers.

Without a title, it's a parts car. Miles on a parts car really don't matter much when you have to transport it across the country. It'd be alright if it was in town.

So if there is no title and the seller doesnt know who the owner was how could you legally buy it? It has to belong to someone doesnt it?

Selling someone else's car for parts. Thats similar to stealing / selling the parts.
Least IMO. I remember reading once in the magazines, that one guy left his 91 tsi awd as he went over seas. Came back to his 10k mileage car sittin in garage brand spanking new.
But damn, that would be one hell of a steal. 3.5k miles.

Re: 1g with 3500 miles. I can't buy this, but someone else should!

The fact that it is in PA and has no rust on the exhaust tips tells me it might really have 3k miles. But then again, why would a 3k mile car have the 'sleepy eyes' mod done to it?
I'd also be suspicious as to how the seller obtained it.

Sounds like a scam to me, if he truely just found the car in a garage a simple call to the police or DMV could point him in the direction of the owner.

I would never buy that motor, it would be rusted to all hell.

Re: 1g with 3500 miles. I can't buy this, but someone else should!

I think if a car is in your posession for 7 years or something like that it's legally yours. It's a pain in the ass to obtain the title but it can be done. My friend bought a "classic" and super popular vw scirocco that was in all these magazines in the 80's from these people in Shakopee that had it at their storage. The guy dropped it off like in 91 and never came back so they ended up selling it to my friend after doing whatever they needed to do to get the title.

This however seems like a scam... but there's too many variables to determin for sure. It would be awesome if it wasn't though.
