Big Brake Upgrade.

I have a 1993 Eagle Talon TSI AWD with 18 inch rims, so they can fit decent size rotors and calipers. I am looking to put a big brake upgrade on my car soon and would like recommendations on some good kits.

I am looking for two piece rotors with an aluminum center, that are slotted and possibly drilled. The calipers I want to be atleast 3 pistons.

Would like to know also what a good kit would be if I decided to go with smaller 16 inch rims.

Thanks in advance!

You can look at TCE and see what they have. I got a set of the road race fronts (13 X 1.10) with the 6-piston calipers for my 2G. They look amazing but I have no review of them as they are still in the box waiting for my car to be running. The 4-piston set-up would probably be perfect I went with the 6 piston mostly for the look.

Please justify your need for 2 piece rotors and 3 pot calipers before we give you any recommendations. If you've got that much money to spend, just go buy whatever hits your fancy.

The only "big brake" upgrade you will get by with using 16" wheels is the 2G two piston calipers. Every aftermarket upgrade requires at least 17" wheels.

Its going to be my graduation present, and I am going to be paying for half of them. That is my justification on my need for recommendations. I know that my car doesn't need them neccessarily and that my current set up is more then sufficient for my 290awhp but I also think big brake upgrades look good and thats where I'd like to spend my money.

Also when I like to upgrade something from stock I try to buy something I know I'm not going to try and replace a year down the road with something better.

That is what I am going to do as well but like Matt D. said are they really needed? Also it may be a good idea to decide if your going to want to run 16" wheels in the future because that would end up being a big waste of money not being able to use the bigger brakes in the future.

No they really arn't needed and I know that. I doubt that I will be running a 16" wheel however in the future due to the fact that I already have nice 18" wheels that fit my taste and don't have the money to replace them. I just like the pure fact that a 16" wheel set up is lighter, has better corning, and is easier for the engine to get them moving.

The Baer Street-Kit uses 12.1" rotors and can be used with 16" wheels. This kit uses the same 2-piston caliper as the Track-Kit only has a .9" smaller rotor. I used the 13" Track-Kit and loved it, especially considering how cheap it can be had for.

Thanks, I'll have to look into this tomorrow during my lunch break, time for me to head to class.

So just to clarify, you want to spend the least money possible on the biggest rotors that look cool?
If you are going purely for the look, you might want to do something about the tiny rear brakes.

I planned on replacing the rears FOR SURE if I remplaced the front ones, would be kind of stupid / ugly looking if I didn't.

However, I decided that this isn't the time to spend money on brakes, I need to put it into something that is a lot more of a neccessity at the time, and thats rebuilding my tranny.

Good choice, if you need bigger brakes just get the larger 2 piston dsm calipers and rotors and call it done.

Agreed.

By the way, my mom used to have a M3 before she became pregnant with my little brother, love those cars! She also used to have a 1991 TSI AWD before she upgraded to her 300zx tt and then after she sold that, thats when she got the M3.

Yeah, obviously they suck because they have the same amount of pistons as the stock big-brakes ;)
