Car Dies

My talon seems to like to die if I rev 3k or more to idle or if I am boosting then go to idle. It will happen every time reguardless of the situation and sometimes if I am being nice to it, it will do it anyways. It's not fun when I am on a hill and it doesn't want to fire up again for a few revolutions or I put some throttle to it. Any ideas on what this problem is and how it can be fixed and avoided? Thanks

Re: Car Dies

You aren't very descriptive. Check your spark plugs and wires. Also check for boost leaks. Start with the simple stuff.

Re: Car Dies

The car has nothing wrong with it as far as leaks or anything it runs and performs like it is supposed to.

Re: Car Dies

All simple things that I have know about are fine and it still dies when revd to a certain point or if the clutch is put in while at 3k or higher. I still I have no idea on what this problem is and I am hoping you guys could share some insight. Thanks.

Re: Car Dies

Does this happen when the car is cold, my cars does this when it is cold, then when the motor gets to operating temp. it runs like a champ. This is my 3rd DSM and the first time i have run into this problem. Shrep said that all DSMs do it and i must of been lucky or something.

Re: Car Dies

This will happen when it is warmed up or cold. As long as I downshift to 2nd then to idle it will stay running or if I slowly bring the rpm's down.

Are you venting your BOV?

No I am not my cousin said it has a kind of good chance of being the lightweight flywheel and how it doesnt have enough mass to keep things turning.

Re: Car Dies

I had an 8lb fidanza flywheel in my 1992 GSX, and the only time I had problems was when i literally revved the engine up, while standing still. the RPMS fell so fast the engine couldnt catch it. But other than that, I never had problems like you are describing. What is your idle set at? If its really low like 500 rpm, sometimes the engine has trouble catching when the revs fall (at least in my experience).

My idle is set to 7-900 rpm's

Re: Car Dies

hey, test your ISC motor... look on VFaq there is a way to test it. That is what is responsible for "catching" your idle so it doesnt just die. I have hte same problem, and i'm going to install a different ISC to see if that fixes it, i'll let you know.

Re: Car Dies

I actually do not have one all computer controls have been eliminated because the car would simply not run with any of it in. Steve put a block off plate in place of the ISC motor.

Re: Car Dies

wow, ok.... well actually i have the same problem, i posted a thread about it recently. I thought it was my ISC, but I tried another one tonight and my idle loping/dying problem is stil there.

I'm really starting to think its a boost/vacuum leak issue. Maybe fuel mixture, although I dont know how I could be running that rich or lean, i'm running stock injectors/ecu/FPR....

see my old thread here:
http://www.dsmstyle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10692

I listed what I had tried to fix it... so far nothing has really helped. I do have a buch of boost leaks, in the next few days i'm going to pressurize my intake manifold to see how much i'm leaking there. The test i did before was just from the turbo to the pipe right before the throttle body.
