Shifter Linkage?
 

I was driving around my 97 gsx tonight and was driving in town using 1,2,3 gears and i was in second and tried to put in into 3rd again after a light and it wouldnt go. the shifter wont move over so i can only use 1 and 2 gears. Im not sure whats going on with it any help much appreciated.

hmm nothing physically in the way of the shifter parts either under the dash piece or near the shifter linkages on the trans right? will the cable move freely with it disconnected from the linkage?
