If you want just springs get the Eibach pro kit I believe its called. If you want coilovers, most people have gone with the ground controls including me, but after some of the issues I've been facing with them, I wish I had saved up a little more and got some "true" coilovers, i.e. Tein. My ground controls have warped somehow and one has even cracked, this is on the cylinder part with the teeth for the adjusting ring, the springs are fine though. What year is your dsm? and is it awd? I have the KYB AGX's and they seem a bit harsh even on the lowest stiffness. I hear the Tokico Illuminas are pretty nice. I think it all comes down to personal preference and budget. But if you're going to use your car all year round, I'd get some sort of coilovers for sure to raise the car during winter.

I personally dont have coilovers, but from the research I've done, make sure you match the spring rates of the springs on the coilover to the valving on the shock. And as for Eibach springs they only really raise the spring rates on the front and the rear is about the same as stock, but they sit lower. I have Tokico Illum. and they are decent but I wish I would have gone with either Koni Yellows and a Ground Control setup for a true coilover setup. But, if you are checking things out it sounds like Koni is what alot of people what want their car to handle go with.

Re: Coilovers or Springs

The only reason I would ever get coilovers is so I could tell Ground Control how stiff I want them, then I'd get the right ride height and leave it. It all depends on how much you are willing to shell out man, you get what you pay for. Not that a $500 Sportline/AGX combo wont kick ass (and probably the best for a daily driver IMO), but obviously a set of Tien SS coilovers will out-perform them.

Re: Coilovers or Springs

I hate sportlines, they drop the car way to much. Don't bother buying those coil-over sleeves they aren't really worth it. Either pony up the cash for some real coil-overs (jic, Tien, Blisten) or go with the AGX/Prokit, the AGX and pro kit were designed for each-other. You can get the AGX off of ebay for $350 shipped and you can get the prokit off of ebay for $220 shipped, so total thats $570 vs. $1100-$1900 for coil-overs where you get adjustability, but the real question is do you need to adjust it?

Unfortuantly, I drive my car all year round. So I got coilovers so I could raise it up when it snows. So I guess it depends on what you use your car for.

Ground controls aren't that great. For a 1g get the DSS coil overs, they are nicer. Tokico doesn't make a shock for 1g's either. KYB or Koni is about it. Most go with KYB AGX's, but the stiction is a bit high.

I agree, I was never real impressed with mine. You are better off with a spring/shock combo or true coilovers.

Have you guys heard of the Skunk2 coilover system for 2g's?
Curious to the quality.

Re: Coilovers or Springs

Skunk2 makes decent quality products, but they are not notorious for excellent suspension setups. They are not true coilovers, just simple adjustable sleeve springs like the GroundControls. TEIN makes some decent low(er) priced true coilover setups and so does Megan (rebadged Apexi coilovers).
