Whats this a pic of?

In my search for a new tranns I found this one. Only problem is the guy claims its a 1G, but it sure looks like a 2G to me. He said he had it in his 94.

I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like a 1g DSM transmision and transfer case.

Manual btw, i just got one off a car not more then a month ago, it was full of oil, but it has all the same plug ins, in all the same places.

I'm not too familiar with 1G trannys. But I printed off these pictures and took them out to the garage to compare them to my tranns. From the shitty pics i had (printer is out of black ink) it looks the same as mine. Its my understanding that the only diference in 1st and 2nd gen tranns is the 2 additional mountning points on the 2nd gens. From these pics it looks like it has all 3 mounts. ButI'm not sure....

The counter weight on the shift lever makes me think its a 2g. Unless the later 1g's have them. I've only delt with 90's and 91's.

It's the speedo cable provsion in the back of the trans that does it for me. But 94s are 7 bolt engines also right.

Re: Whats this a pic of?

It wouldnt matter if its for a 7 bolt or a 6 bolt. The 2g's have different mounts for the tranny. That looks like a 1g tranny, but I've never really looked at a 2g. I have delt with various 1g trannys though.

Where does the speedo mount on a 1G, I know their mechanical but do they have a different mounting location?

In the back of the trans right below the starter.

I just sent Jon at TRE the serial number and he said its one of theirs but was rebuilt in 02. Since 02 a tranns can take a lot of abuse. I think I just lost interest.

Wouldn't you be better off trusting the guy who's selling it? I'm sure he probably knows what car it came off of.

Re: Whats this a pic of?

^^ You would think that but in his description he lists that is has a welded center diff and a little further down the list it says it has a 4spyder. He claims to have the build recipt but cant seem to list what it really has.

BTW Luke, that looks pretty damn clean for being rebuilt in 02 doesnt it?

Re: Whats this a pic of?

I STRONGLY believe that is a 2g AWD tranny.

Gravy 04-25-2006 10:33 AM

Re: Whats this a pic of?

Yeah, call me stupid now but you can almost see 5 bolts just from the picture. So... it would be bad if they only had one bolt on the botom half of the tranny.

That and the Transfer case doens't look anything liek the 1g we pulled off the car.

I'm changing my vote to a 2g. But doesn't sound like it matters much now.

Re: Whats this a pic of?

I'm not sure how much in demand the 1g awd tranny's are but just the large number of bids on this also backs up my thoughts on that it is a 2g awd tranny.
