Do you have to keep the charcoal canister?

Doing an engine swap and trying to get rid of everything that doesn't have to be there. I believe it's called the charcoal canister (sits directly underneath the battery on a 1g). I asked Mo, and he said he had it untiil he got his AEM, but was unsure if I could get rid of it. I have a stock ecu with a safc2. Any info helps. Thanks.

I got rid of it too, but sometimes it gets stinky in the garage from the vented gas

I got rid of it in my 2G. I talked to Mike and he told me to take off the line going to the fuel tank and run one to the back of the car with a lawnmower fuel filter in line instead.

Get rid of all the emissions(who needs it). If you go on DSMTuners and look at thier teck artlicles there is one with a pic of the "taboospeedshop" way basicly all you are left with is the vacuum lines to the FPR solinoid, line to the BOV and a line to the WG.

all of the extra "exposed" nipples on the throttle body need to be plugged off. You can buy these small rubber plugs at most auto stores.

You need to block off the emissions portion of your block that's close to your throttle body. It will have 2 BOV looking units on it I believe. It will have a diamond shaped base with 2 emission holes and 2 bolt holes. You need to buy a block off plate or make one out of some sheet metal and remember to use RTV or some shit to make it a clean blockoff.

Some people think it helps your gas mileage and doesn't effect your performance. Others disagree. I've met some people from other states that have to keep emissions and not one of them was hurt by it. They all ran well and were pretty quick. The only reason I take them out is because it cleans up the engine bay considerably. I forget how many feet of vacuum you need but I'd assume it's important to make sure you have at least the minimum required amount. I've never really seen a problem with that though.
