91+ - 90 Ecu

I might buy a 90 FWD eclipse GST. it was an auto, converted to manual. They aren't sure if the ECU is a manual or Auto. What parts off of what cars would I need to convert to a 91 + fwd turbo ECU?

I guess if someone had a 1990 fwd turbo dsm ecu, you could let me know :P

No parts needed, simply switch I believe 2 wires around for a 91-94 ECU to work in a 90. For the time being, you could use that 90 ECU even if it is for AT aslong as you run a SAFC too.

I don't have an SAFC anymore :(

I thought I read something about switching out a transistor or something like that. I wish I remembered which thread I read about this in.

Nope. I swapped ECU's in a friend's car once and it was nothing more than switching 2 wires around. I don't remember which onces but it should be pretty easy to find.

Go to 4g61t.org and look at the tech notes.

Re: 91+ - 90 Ecu

91-94 ECU's are compatible, however there where some changes.
On the 24 pin harness, wires #6 and #14 control idle, and air flow.

So if you use the 91-94 ECU p pins/wires 6 and 14 and you are go to go

...........................

that's the only thing I found on 4g61t.org that gave me anything related. I'm sure there is more somewhere, but I didn't see anything else. I also saw them say it doesnt matter if it's an AWD or FWD tranny... hmm?

So according to them I could use my 92 AWD ECU 5 spd and just change the idle / air flow wires around and I'd be good to go? That seems too simple..

I have a 90 ecu I want $70. I want $70 for it.

FWD turbo ecu?

Re: 91+ - 90 Ecu

I don't remember if it was fwd or awd but it is a turbo ecu. I thought it was an awd one but they both work. I had one of each and I only know where 1 is. I know the 2g fwd ones have speed limiters in them at 130, but I don't think the 1g ones have speed limiters. It should work perfectly fine. I don't think there is a fwd or awd difference accept the fwd one maybe having a speed limiter. It will work either way, FWD or AWD.

I'll let you know before this coming weekend james. I won't know if I'm buying the car until then.

This is true. The fuel maps are slightly different but you'll never notice.

Re: 91+ - 90 Ecu

no problem. I am in no hurry to sell it. I have too much crap to unload anyways that it doesn't matter if I have an ecu sitting here.

Re: 91+ - 90 Ecu

this is how I did it and I havent had any problems http://www.ecanfix.com/~mdhamilton/ecuconversion.html

I think just swaping the wires works to put a 90 ECU in a 91+ car but not the other way around.

Re: 91+ - 90 Ecu

So i should cut off the power transistor plug off my harness on the 92 ? It says you need harness hmm... all the way down to the ecu?

carltalon 04-05-2006 02:53 PM

Re: 91+ - 90 Ecu

you just cut off the plugs and rewire them in the engine bay

Jepherz 04-19-2006 12:23 AM

Re: 91+ - 90 Ecu

Carltalon is correct. Also, to swap between FWD and AWD on any 1g ecu, all you have to do is swap out a resistor.
