What can I remove to make my car lighter?
I recently bought a 1g shell, and plan to drop my motor and tranny in. Before i do though, I want to take out everything i can to make the car as light as possible. Need to know everything i can possibly take out besides the usual things like;
power steering (which i have decided to keep) Air conditiong condenser front and rear bumpers back seat rear seatbelts Please add to the list. |

Quoted from Buschurracing.com.
"Weight Savings (that won't kill you) Remove the padding from the bottom of the carpet. Remove the tar-like sound deadener on the floor of the interior and on the firewall. Get rid of the spare tire, jack, tools, rear seats, rear deck lid, rear hatch carpet, metal brackets in the rear hatch, and the heat shields in the driveshaft tunnel. Convert from power steering to a manual rack. Get lighter wheels and tires." If you have a 200lb girlfriend. Get one thats around 120lbs. Thats a 80lbs saved. Since 89lb girls would probably fly out the window once boost hits. |
Re: What can I remove to make my car lighter?
Remove dash, Wiper motor, rear wiper, antenna, carpet, pass seat, Auto seat belts, washer fluid, front steel bumper, exhaust heat sheild(under car), as little amount of gas as possible(1/2 tank or less), speakers, power window mechanism, power lock mechanism, glass(replace with lexan), speed holes.
after that it comes to cutting metal. |

My first thought (or question) would be "street or strip"?

Re: What can I remove to make my car lighter?
Why do you need to lighten it? Shane(ecoli) has proven that a heavy car can still run damn fast times. If Mike/Grandpa(Vicious) ever gets his whale running, he'll do the same. This will be about as light as you'll ever get:

Leave out the motor & tranny. Run that thing fred-flinstone style, you'll save a ton on gas, and your car will be super light!

Re: What can I remove to make my car lighter?
exactly why i could care less if i have carpet or an interior. I am also looking to replace my clean grey cloth seats, with a set of corbeau fx1, or other non-reclinable seats.

Re: What can I remove to make my car lighter?
The fronts seats are definitly not light. As soon as i find another person to rob, i'm gonna get myself a set of new front seats. Don't know what yet.

Carbon Fiber Hood and Hatch does wonders as well. The look pretty good also. Expensive but effective. However I have seen them fly up and shatter windows. Ouch!!

You dont need power steering, be a fucking man. Grow some damn balls. I delivered pizza in my laser AWD without power steering. Its not that bad once you get used to it. Plus if you convert to a manual rack you have better gearing so its easier to turn.
