Boost cooler
I was thinking about methanol/water injection for the Laser and know someone in the past has tried it on a DSM, my question is what is the current thought about the use of methanol/water injection to help with running high boost?

"...excuse for bad tuning."

Re: Boost cooler
Methanol injection is great. Water injection is not worth the trouble. With straight methanol injection, you should be able run 28+psi on pump gas and do it with much smaller injectors than it would take on race gas.

Re: Boost cooler
hell yes, the GN guys were onto something. guys have run 125+mph traps without intercoolers using the stuff! and by using i mean in addition to gasoline, these are not complete meth only cars.
definetly a very interesting development, lots of pumps, nozzles and safety systems to look into. |
Re: Boost cooler
Yup, it is the shit, and probably the next purchase I'll be making for my car. You can run 25-30-ish psi on pump gas w/ no problem. Alky injection is a really really big thing to do in the evo scene right now, as it allows all the whiners that are afraid to yank their turbo off & swap it w/ something bigger to do 320+ whp on the stock turbo.
My buddy has a kit for his S4, and one of these days he'll finish getting it installed and I'll be in the dust. So yea, go for it. Snowperformance.net has them. |

water injection is trouble.

Re: Boost cooler
Water Injection is not the same as Methanol injection... Water/Rubber alcohol injection is a waste of time. Methanol injection is like spraying high octane race gas into your car that also acts as an intercooler, it can make a huge difference in the amount of boost that you can run and adds fuel in the process.

Re: Boost cooler
Instead of Ethanol, would E-85 gas work for this? Pardon the newb question, but it's just a thought.

Re: Boost cooler
Methanol, not ethanol.

If your goal for water injection is to run 5 more psi, then you'll probably be disappointed, but I don't see how it's a bad thing. Maybe not worth the money or hassle like Shane said, but it does have benefits. |
Re: Boost cooler
I tuned a turbo Honda today that was running straight E85. You burn through that stuff pretty fast.
