DSMer=Wimp?
I just recently came to the conclusion a lot of DSMers must be wimps. Often I hear many people complain their clutch pedal is too stiff, or timing belt replacement is too hard, or they're too scared to take apart their trannys (like me). It just seems like a lot of DSMers like to whine.
Haha, I'm just kidding. |
Re: DSMer=Wimp?
So go buy a Kia

Re: DSMer=Wimp?
We dont whine, we bitch.
plain and simple, Rusty bolts without some sort of air tools are a bitch to get out sometimes. -Colin |

I was never prewarned. I didnt know a thing about it, I just didnt want a Civic or something like that and I saw a couple DSMs at the track, then got into them...heh heh...bad mistake. :) I dont regret it though. Just regret not doing things right the first time...lol.

I wish i could remember whos sig it was on here about dsms, maybe someone could help me out, but i think it was something like "cheap, fast, reliable" Circle 2. Man i had a good laugh at that. -Adam *Before a big fight comes up about this thread just want to point out that im not dissing on any certain car and that why i emphasised the MOSTs, and the exceptions. * |

DSM's arent that fast stock, lows 15s high 14s. So if you got a bunch of stock cars together and raced em, the DSM's wouldnt kill all. Now if you got a bunch of stock cars, with only $1000 in mods, thats a differnt story. |
Re: DSMer=Wimp?
I'm no wimp. LOL
I know a kid who bought a TSi AWD and has no clue anything about cars. He asks ME for help. He can't fix it and when it breaks, which is pretty much every other day, he bitches because he doesn't know how to fix it and refuses to do anything, and calls me for rides. Fuckin' a.. don't buy a DSM and think you won't be doing any work on it, cuz no matter what, you will. |
Re: DSMer=Wimp?
Ok here is my input anyone who owns a 1G and bitch or wine about it should be shot. Those things are easy as hell to work on and is built like a tank (body wise). If you take your time. 2G's are a different story. There engine bay is tighter than tight. Also remember these are 16-7 year cars. If you don't mantain them they will not last or be reliable. Like I mention previosly in many threads. Most 1G's I seen have over 130k miles on there odometer and it runs like a champ. As for mod for mod DSM are the best bang for the buck. If you want a fast car shut up, put the money and time into the car. If you want a stock car for daily driving than go and buy a kia. Now can I have some cheese with my wine.

Re: DSMer=Wimp?
Two well known things that don’t last with out lots of money, fast females and fast cars.
I have been online talking DSM for some time now and one thing is vary clear DSM folk are cheap, and allot of DSMs are “rat rods” you know, home grown cheaply modified time bombs, because of not taking the time and money to do it right the first time. Example, putting Bar’s stop leak in the radiator to fix the radiator leak, than a year later while racing in the middle of nowhere the POS old radiator that should have been replaced leaks and you bitch!? My2cents. |

Re: DSMer=Wimp?
When working on DSMs, you just have to do it. Don't know how? TRY. Anyone with common sense and maybe a little mechanical knowhow can work on a DSM. Its also great that there is so much information online for everyone to see.
And yes, I agree 1G DSMs are easy to work on! And if DSMs are maintained properly, they seem to be quite reliable! (at least with all my experiences). |
Re: DSMer=Wimp?
Hell yeah, people are such wimps, like my 10 year old brother, I was dropping him off, he got out of my galant and not to my knowledge i was rolling forward, 2 seconds later I hear him scream like the little girl he is, aparently I "ran over" his foot, what a crybaby.

Re: DSMer=Wimp?
I believe there is balance to aggressively modding/repairing any car, trying to push it to far beyond your experience, skill and knowledge base usually ends up costing you alot more than having a pro do it.
Having a pro do everything, also leaves you poorer, and with out gaining very much knowledge and experience in the process. If you really want to be a full time wrench, get some school and or real experience and be a full time wrench. For myself, DSM's are just one of my many hobbies; therefore the amount of time, money and energy that I choose to devote into DSMs is tempered by wisdom and the "look" I get from my wife who doesn't really "dig it". I have a 60 hour week job and just don't have enough resources to be a "hardcore", so for me it just makes sense "to be a wimp" and have SOME of the DEEPER projects done by the pros, and try to pick up some tips, and knowledge on the way. There's a fine line here between "being a wimp" and not doing any work on your car, and "being a fool" and getting in WAY over your head and wrecking your ride cause you think you know more than you really do! Like most things in life, balance, realistic introspection and wisdom are the best answers for most of life’s successes! <I’m old as shit and have already wrecked more crap pushing “the bubble” than most of you younger folks could only dream of, once bitten twice shy…:->> IMHO....... |
Re: DSMer=Wimp?
