Stroking ??'s
I have a sanota block looking for a purpos, and have a few questions.
1. Could I use the 1st gen stock pistons? And what rings would I need to seal it up. Also what compression would that yeild. If not were can I get a set of pistons to work. Kinda want to keep the stock rods. 2. If I can use the stock pistons would ceramic coating them help with longevity? I am from the wonderful world of Rotaries and when you ceramic coat the face of the rotors it cuts down on heat damage to the rotors. 3. Does any one have a part number for the stubby shaft and the spacer for the crank to elimanate the b shafts? Going to shot for 450whp on the stroker with a 20g. Thanks |
Re: Stroking ??'s
What do you need a stroker for? A 20G doesn't need one to be streetable. Also, 450whp is pushing it. Racegas at all times?
|
Re: Stroking ??'s
Yeah, the 20g is gonna be getting pushed hard for 450whp, better be a TD06 housing on it.
What hyundai block do you have? 6 cyl, 4 cyl, 2.4, 2.0, 1.6??? |
Re: Stroking ??'s
A Sonata block is not a "stroker" unless you're putting a larger crank in than it came with. A 2.4 is not a stroker.
|
Re: Stroking ??'s
so technical! its the 2.4 block. I may get another turbo, but it will be broke in on the 20g. Planing on large injectors and E85 maybe some water or methanol injection.
|
Re: Stroking ??'s
The 4g63 pistons will obviously not work with the larger bore of the 2.4. Check the other active thread, 2.3 vs. 2.4. That goes over some of it. Do a search, this has been gone through several times.
Keep us posted on the E85 progress. I was getting close to trying it, but never did. What kind of fuel system are you going to? The stock system won't cut it. You need a lot more fuel with E85 than with gas. It will also be hard on the stock rubber lines, so they need to be stainless. |
Re: Stroking ??'s
Oh dear god, why? What is this E85 craze?! Why pay race gas prices for a worthless product?
|
Re: Stroking ??'s
Since when is E85 at race gas price levels?
|
Re: Stroking ??'s
Since you have to burn atleast twice as much of it. It has no long carbon chains...it's a dead fuel. No power...wasteful to make...worthless to the world. Fuck the farmers, corn is worthless.

Re: Stroking ??'s
You dont need to run twice the amount of fuel, just 10-20% more. I have ran it on my 04 R1 for over a year it works well. Your mileage is effected but runs clean.
Iowa has been adding corn in there gas for some time and you dont hear any horror storys out of that state that claims blown engines becouse of fuel. why pay the money for 100 octane when e85 is 105 at half the price. |
Re: Stroking ??'s
Power wise: Specific heat for C8H18 is around 42.6 MJ/kg and E85 is around 32.7 MJ/kg, which is 30% more for regular gas
Mileage: Per 60L tank, C8H18 is around 1907 MJ and E85 is around 1536 MJ, which is 24% more for regular gas CO2 emission: C8H18 is around 12.5% or 72g/MJ and E85 is around 12.3% or 69 g/MJ, which again, C8H18 is a bit higher MJ = megajoule = 1*10^6 joules, where a joule is a derived unit of work or energy. read : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-85 interesting note, "Minnesota has the largest number of E85 fuel pumps of any U.S. state, with 158 of the 580+ pumps in the country" |

Screw ethanol again, I'm tired of supporting farmers at places other than the produce isle: http://www.duluthsuperior.com/mld/du...r/14123257.htm
Hey, maybe to even things out we should start adding Chevy badges to milk cartons in order to help support the American auto industry. |
Re: Stroking ??'s
Who cares how many megajoules is in it. Can you make power with it, and will it be cheaper than race gas? I want to test it myself this year, when you can finetune your a/f's for it and kick up the timing from the higher octane, it sounds like a possible winner in my book. Plus it's subsidized by the state or some farmer group, so the price ain't bad. Let's get some actual numbers from it instead of quoting internet sources with no real info.
Oh and back to the original topic. If you want LOTS of info on stroking, trying a google search on that word. :D |
Re: Stroking ??'s
i'm just stating facts, straight gasoline can do more work than E85. end of story. if you want awesome power on pump just go meth injection like everyone else.
|
Re: Stroking ??'s
Ethanol won't make much more power at the same airflow level than gasoline, they are about the same, unlike methanol that makes about 15% more HP. But with ethanol you can crank up the boost and make more power that way.

Re: Stroking ??'s
I've been doing some testing with ethanol lately and imo I like it a lot. In my real world experience I'm not losing a lot of fuel economy at all. Proabably 10%. I'm tuning using dsmlink and boy this gas will let me hold 35psi with .04 degrees of knock at 17 degrees peak timing. That is awsome. I havn't tried rasing the timing up but it feels like I could probably advance the timing a degree or two. Although after reading more about this fuel it seems to like lower timing but you can advance it higher due to the higher octane level. I'll probably dyno tune my car with this stuff. With this stuff at $1.95 right now I can't say no.

Re: Stroking ??'s
The only thing holding me back is my fuel setup (walbro 255 hp & 950cc injctrs). IDCs are 100% at around 30psi. Even at 35psi IDCs are way past 100% (110-115%) and it still doesn't knock. I'm proabably leaning out very badly but it still doesn't knock and shows how cool this gas is.
