Re: 0-280mph in 10 sec. - The Jet Motorcycle
Let's get a few & go cruise the autobahn. Anyone?

Re: 0-280mph in 10 sec. - The Jet Motorcycle
Actually its 180 to 280 in 10 seconds. Pretty sweet though. I'd actually want a top fuel dragster before that thing. I'd rather do 0 to 300mph in less than 6 seconds.

Re: 0-280mph in 10 sec. - The Jet Motorcycle
Just a little late (180-280mph in 10seconds) Some company made a jet powerd motor cylce, Jay Leno has one, its loud and burns stuff with its exhaust. That is said to go 260mph with 2 gears, Low and High.

Nice find john, here is my copy and paste:
while we know it can go from 180-280 mph in 10 seconds, and what the drag coefficient is, how about 0-60? Wow Jake hit it as well, screw you guys! |

Now THAT'S A RUSH! http://www.nhra.com/streetlegal/funfacts.html FUN FACTS Did you know … … that the nitromethane-powered engines of NHRA Top Fuel dragsters and Funny Cars produce approximately 7,000 horsepower, about 37 times that of the average street car? … that one cylinder of the eight cylinders of a Top Fuel dragster or a Funny Car produces 750 horsepower, equaling the entire horsepower output of a NASCAR engine? … that the gasoline-powered engines of NHRA Pro Stock cars produce about 1,200 horsepower, about eight times that of the average street car? … that an NHRA Top Fuel dragster accelerates from 0 to 100 mph in less than .8-second, almost 11 seconds quicker than it takes a production Porsche 911 Turbo to reach the same speed? … that an NHRA Top Fuel dragster leaves the starting line with a force nearly five times that of gravity, the same force of the space shuttle when it leaves the launching pad at Cape Canaveral? … that an NHRA Funny Car is slowed by a reverse force more than seven times that of gravity when both parachutes deploy simultaneously? … that NHRA Top Fuel dragsters and Funny Cars consume between four and five gallons of fuel during a quarter-mile run, which is equivalent to between 16 and 20 gallons per mile? … that NHRA Top Fuel dragsters and Funny Cars use between 10 and 12 gallons of fuel for a complete pass, including the burnout, backup to the starting line, and quarter-mile run? … that NHRA Top Fuel dragsters and Funny Cars travel the length of more than four football fields in less than five seconds? … that NHRA Top Fuel dragsters can exceed 280 mph in just 660 feet? … that from a standing start, NHRA Top Fuel dragsters accelerate faster than a jumbo jet, a fighter jet, and a Formula One race car? … that a fuel pump for an NHRA Top Fuel dragster and Funny Car delivers 65 gallons of fuel per minute, equivalent to eight bathroom showers running at the same time? … that the fuel-line pressure for NHRA Top Fuel dragsters and Funny Cars is between 400 and 500 pounds, about 20 times greater than the pressure on passenger-car fuel pumps? … that depending on size and angle, the large rear wing on an NHRA Top Fuel dragster develops between 4,000 and 8,000 pounds of downforce? … that the 17-inch rear tires used on NHRA Top Fuel dragsters and Funny Cars wear out after four to six runs, or about two miles? Some brands of passenger-car tires are guaranteed for 80,000 miles. … that it takes just 15/100ths of a second for all 7,000 horsepower of an NHRA Top Fuel dragster engine to reach the rear wheels? … that it's desirable for an NHRA Top Fuel dragster to race with its front wheels inches off the ground for about the first 200 feet of the run? This ensures proper weight transfer to the rear wheels, a crucial part of a good launch and quick run. … that the nitromethane used to power the engines of NHRA Top Fuel dragsters and Funny Cars costs about $16 per gallon? |
Re: 0-280mph in 10 sec. - The Jet Motorcycle
Damn... I want 750hp per cylinder and to be able to accelerate from 0-100 in .8 seconds. Thats like a normal reaction time for some people!

Re: 0-280mph in 10 sec. - The Jet Motorcycle
Yea, but top fuel dragsters are not street legal, and get their motors rebuilt daily.

Must be nice to have that kind of dough huh? |
Re: 0-280mph in 10 sec. - The Jet Motorcycle
Dont they make several passes a day?
|
Re: 0-280mph in 10 sec. - The Jet Motorcycle
And they rebuild the motor after every pass, complete tare down to the crank shaft, then new rods and what ever else is not up to spec anymore. I think its like an hour or so, Josh has attended a Top Fuel event, I have only heard of what goes on.

Re: 0-280mph in 10 sec. - The Jet Motorcycle
Yeah I heard a good crew can rebuild the whole motor in 45 minutes. Insanity.

Re: 0-280mph in 10 sec. - The Jet Motorcycle
haha a 700 hp turbo'd hyabusa motor... that's awesome

Re: 0-280mph in 10 sec. - The Jet Motorcycle
The jet bike the Jay Leno has is a Y2k its powered with a bell helicopter engine. The bad thing about that bike is when you give it fuel and it winds up it takes three seconds for it to start winding down when you let off the throttle.
Turbo busa's are beasts too. They beat the hell out of you, I rode a 350 whp one and I could only take it for a few minutes on the street, they get scary when the boost comes on and the front tire pulls straight up. Still I would take it for a ride if I wasn't responsibile for what happens. |

Imagine a bench with a dozen or so guys around it. They have a few dozen impacts with torque sticks, in a set order, and everyone knows how it goes together. It is insane on how fast they work, no checking, just flying. I am sure there is someone in the trailer measuring everything behind the scenes, but in the pits, its all air tools. Nitromethane burns the eyes, and I like that :). It is a smell you'll never forget. |
