CV Shaft Boot

Ok I was removing my motor and the drivers side shaft got caught on the motor. It pulled the intermediate shaft out from the boot. Where can I go to get a new clamp put on? I notice that the Mistu manual say the grease in the shaft is special. What kind of grease can I use? This is in a 1991 AWD talon.

Any parts store will sell new boots and grease. You'll need a special tool for the clamps, but most stores have one on their loan/rent-a-tool program.

Do as he said. Do not be tempted to buy a split boot, do it right the first time with the OE style. You dont need to go to mitsu for this either, like kracka said any autoparts store will be able to help you.

The boot is fine. The grease is fine but since I have to put a clamp on it, I was thinking about putting new grease in it. So, does anybody know what kind of grease needs to be used. Can a machine shop put the clamp on for me? I tried looking for the tool but no one has one for rent. Anybody on this forum replaced the boot before?

As far as I know you need the special tool to do it. It pinches the clamp together from the sides then a little nub pushes it flat. Can you find a place that sells the tool? Parts stores should atleast stock them for sale. Just buy it and return it. As far as the grease, any parts store will have it but if you havent lost any you might as well leave it alone.

the boot shouldn't have came off that easily. what i used is a puller. looks like a hook on the end of the tool. pry the end of the shaft where it goes into the tranny and there you have it.

there are two type of band clamps that i'm aware of. just make sure you get the right tool for the application.
imho, the clamp that folds back is junk. the clamp that compresses like the original is better. tough luck finding those.

gluck.
