injection molding?
 

Anyone work with injection molding before? Or maybe know off the top of your head what common companies might use for files to design a product? I know some places you can just bring something in and have a mold made, but what if you want a mold of something from an idea that can only be put on paper/file.

Get someone to draft you something with SolidWorks.

Pro-E is another one. That's what I use all day. What exactly do you mean by having a mold made? You can have protoype tooling made for much cheaper than a production tool, but you can only get shots in the thousands before the tool is worn out. Production tooling should be good for the hundreds of thousands or even millions of shots depending on how complicated the part is. But of course the cost is much, much higher. Vista is who we use for all of our SLA's and prototype work. We've used them for proto tooling as well, on some of our high dollar projects.

How big of a part are you looking at? Is it a pretty simple design overall? If you need help with anything, just let me know.

We injection mold things at the place I work... Rubber rollers.

We use solidworks.

Tooling is going to be expensive. If you are looking low production, it will be a big factor. Most companies will use a .dxf file. Solidworks and Pro-e are the big ones to create one with.
