Wheel Hop

Sorry guys, I don't know much about this but lately, my car was dead because of the tranny. Now, I got it fixed with a new used stock tranny (40K miles). I don't know what I'm doing wrong but when I take my 96 GST at start or on 1st gear, and I speed it up to like the high rpms, I get wheel hop. I don't know if it's the new tranny that's causing this, or I'm just launching too fast for a FWD, or maybe it has something to do with the LSD? I need your help cause I heard that wheel hop is bad for the tranny, and I already went through with one tranny. But my best solution for myself is to not take it up to the high rpms when lunching and just shift to 2nd by like 5000 rpm.

Or just not do it at all... no duh rite?

Yeah. Launch without spinning your tires. Its not doing you any good.
If you dont know already, 1st gear is worthless in a FWD. Try not to break shit on your way to 2nd.

Re: Wheel Hop

Prothane motor-mounts + LSD + aftermarket shocks/springs = no more FWD wheel-hop

I kind of have the same problem, but mine just starts to spin (no wheel hop) at around 5000 rpms. This happens to me in 1st and 2nd gear, I HATE front wheel drive.
If you dont have them already, get polyurathane motor mounts, it will help get rid of the wheel hop.

Re: Wheel Hop

Buy a AWD to start off with. If not just put in a motor mount inserts. You can pick them up for less than 100 dollars. Just be ready for a little vibration.

Get yourself a AWD or RWD. Problem fixed. The more power you make now, the more you will hate your car.

Just go with drag slicks

Wheel hop will bust that diff and send it through the case pretty quick. Stop driving like that or buy some sticky tires, motor mount inserts, etc.

Seriously consider an AWD swap, theres a thread on it in the forums, although I have never done one, I am sure it it will be worth the effort.

I saw a 94 GSX in a junk yard not too long ago, it should contain alot of the hard-to-find AWD parts for your conversion, it was a 4 bolt also.

you can live with FWD so long as you have no: HP or Ice

there are very few "worthy" fwd cars out there.

Off topic: You can convert 1g fwd car to awd? I know you can on 2Gs, but I've just honestly never heard any one talk about doing it to a 1G.

It is cheaper to just buy an AWD to start with than to convert one.

hahaha, well, too late now. I should've of thought of that until I bought one. I had no clue at all about DSM and turbo's until I got my Eclipse GST. We'll just see how crazy I am to putting money into this DSM of mine. Thanks for the advice you guys.

This thread is about a '96 GS-T.

The floor pans/rear suspension on a 1G FWD vs. AWD car is completely different. There would be lots of cutting and welding involved.
