Questions about lowering a 2G
I have a few questions about lowering my 96 Talon Tsi AWD. It just turned 100k miles and the suspension seems like it is totally shot (I got the car about 20k ago). Vehicle weight is about stock.
Since I don't like the gap above the tire, I want to lower it a little. So I'm thinking Eibach Pro springs and either the KYB AGX or Tokico adjustable shocks (if I can find any used ones). Anyway, I'm wondering if there is going to be any issue with tires rubbing. In the summer I have 18x8.5" rims and 225/40 tires. I'm also wondering what tools are going to be needed to do the install. I have a really nice set of sockets/wrenches but beyond that I don't have much. I'll have a torque wrench in the next few weeks too. However, just a half-empty heated parking ramp underground at my apartment building to install them which will suck. I really want to install them myself so I can learn more about my car but if it requires an insane amount of specialized tools I may not be able to. On another note, do you think the adjustable shocks will be worth the extra money for an every day car? |

I was just looking into buying springs for my car. I read this guy has Eibach sportlines with aftermarket shocks and 225/40 tires and he said it rubs once in awhile. So Im assuming you will be fine with the prokit. Also I did springs on my friends car and its not that hard. The only specialty tool you need is a spring compressor. An impact wrech would be nice to speed but not needed.

Tokico Illumina are good adjustable shocks for 2G cars. I am guessing you want to keep this cheaper so I won't even bother suggesting coilovers. Look into the shock/spring packages from Tokico, lots of people are happy with then and the price is very reasonable.

I found a set of Tokico 5 way adjustable shocks and MaxSpeed coilovers. Not a huge amount of miles on them, $375 shipped.
Anyone have experience with MaxSpeed coilovers? I couldn't find any forums online that mentioned them being paired with Tokico shocks or a DSM. I have some specs for them: linear spring rate, 572lbs front and 472lbs rear. No clue what this equates to in ride feel. Thanks again for the help, Andrew |

You can find those Tokico Illumina kits w/ springs on ebay for about $485 w/ free shipping. I'm 90% sure I'll be ordering a set of those in the next month or so.

How well will 600-250-600 GC coilovers ride compared to other springs out there like the Eibach pros?

I have Tokico 5 way adjustable shocks and skunk2 coilovers with there drag springs on my awd spyder and that rides great.

I have the Tokico Illuminas and i love em. I dont know what springs i have, but shane is right, cheap coilovers is NOT the way to go. I had them on my 99 GSX and i hated the ride, so freakin bouncy i would always have a headache because my head was always hitting the roof (literally, im not joking on that one). Once i got the GST and it had the Tokicos on it my headache surprisingly went away. :)
