426 BB Hemi to make a come back?

One can only Dream......

http://autoshow.msn.com/as/article.a...w=autoshow2006

"The Challenger concept is powered by Chrysler’s 425-horsepower 6.1-liter HEMI V8 whose deep tones were heard at the press conference. Chrysler officials said the car should go from 0-to-60 miles an hour in 4.5 seconds, which is on par with many sports cars, and top speed is 174 mph."

I used to cream my Jeans in the 70's when I'd see the now Classic models draggin up on Uni , now, 30 years later I still won't be able to afford the price tag on this beast! Let alone the Premium Gas to power it @ ~10 MPG and now $3.00 Per gallon!

Wish either of my 4 cyl, 2 liter DSM's got 25 mpg?

If your foots going to be in this car at all, it's not going to get close to 25 Mpg!

And don't tell me your foot's not going to be, just look at it!

With the deep overdrives they have these days, 25mpg is not too tough with a powerful V8. My dad's old ZR1 Vette used to get 27mpg on the highway. My DSM with a VPC and a little 20G got 27mpg on the freeway as well.

The trannies have a lot to do with it, since RPMs kill gas mileage. But Chrysler has develope the variable valve system. Where when you are just cruising your basically only running on 4 cylinders. When you need more power then the motor will come to it full potential. I think they use that technology in the new 300C's. Pretty cool.

I think this was tried in the past also. I can't remember who tried it, but it was very unreliable. I guess we will see how it performs once its been out for a few years.

Cadillac used it in the early 80s and it sucked. I'm just thinking of the LS1 Fbodys and C5 and C6 vettes. They all get 30mpg on the highway.

They did it on the ZR1's starting in 1990. It wasn't for mileage though, it was the valet mode that cut power almost in half.

Yeah. No way to balence that beast. They called it the "4-6-8" I had a friend in highschool with one.

The ZR-1's had 16 injectors. The valet mode killed half of them.

you guys are missing the point by talking about gas milage. that is not a car you buy when considering gas milage, and vice versa.

if you are nit picking on milage on ANY car with a v8, you are out of your gourd. get a crx hf with headers and an after market exhaust. 50 mpg.

caddy did the displacement on demand thing in the mid 80's with the 4.1L engine, but they couldn't get the injectors completely shutoff for some reason and it would spray some gas on the cylinder walls while the piston was disabled, thus washing the cylinder wall of oil and causing premature failure.

i'm guessing the current displacement on demand engines had fixed that problem. it is quite a good idea, but is only useful to the people who drive on the highway. in town the engine is running on all cylinders all the time.

if you look at the hemi ram with the dispacement item, it gets something like 12 in town, but I think it's 29 on the highway. Might be 24 though.

those engines sure to love gas.
I think dodge and gm are having a competition with the 6.0L vortec vs 5.7L hemi on who can chug the fastest.
