Place: Up in there air but in the south metro there is horse & hunt. Suggestions? I'm pretty mobile as long as it isn't way out there.

Time: We can figure this out as the thread goes on.

Woohoo! I would love this! I am not new to moving targets let alone shotgun moving targets but I could use the practice no doubt! I can certainly suggest Oakdale Gun Club for cheap and easy and smaller scale (less pressure) otherwise I know of some other places. I'm super down for this.

I am also game, and don't care if you're good or bad lol. Sunday is usually the best day for me. Horse and hunt is generally the go to spot for me.

Anybody a member of the Oakdale gun club?

This seems like reasonable pricing:

Re: Skeet Shooting

Different types of shooting. Horse and Hunt makes it a bit more interesting imo. vs oakdale. You do pay for the difference though. Also it looks like Oakdale is only trap? not a mix of both.

Re: Skeet Shooting

Ahh, I never knew there was a difference!

Does horse and hunt have the option for sporting clays?

Re: Skeet Shooting

You know you can drive an hour north of town and do it for free. At one of the places I go dirt biking they have a gun range there. Iam sure you can throw some clays and shoot there. I don't see where not. I have a thrower sitting at home.

Re: Skeet Shooting

horse and hunt is sporting clays. basically like a golf course where you go to 5 different stations. I do believe they also have a trap station but it isn't as fun.

Re: Skeet Shooting

Well I'm down for horse and hunt for sure then.

What's everybody's schedule like?

Re: Skeet Shooting

I will return from some travels on July 1st so I may miss the first gathering but I'm down just about any Saturday or Sunday or any weekday after 5.

AwdGSX13 06-15-2016 10:00 AM

Re: Skeet Shooting

Basically any Saturday or Sunday would work for me.

Re: Skeet Shooting

If you're just starting out may be easier to try trap. Skeet and especially sporting clays are pretty humbling although they can be more fun depending on how competitive you are. I'm shooting trap again for my dad this season, I think it's about my 12th or so season. Averaging about 21.5 getting back into the swing of things.

I'm down most Sunday's if you guys figure out a date

Re: Skeet Shooting

Pat, you should pick a date coming up that works.

Any events going on July 10th?

AwdGSX13 06-20-2016 02:49 PM

Re: Skeet Shooting

I could make July 10th.

tehehodi 06-20-2016 03:26 PM

Re: Skeet Shooting

Err, just realized i'll be coming back from my g/f's cabin.

How about July 24th?

AwdGSX13 06-20-2016 03:29 PM

Re: Skeet Shooting

I believe that will be fine as well.

dogwhistle 06-21-2016 09:26 AM

Re: Skeet Shooting

Down for the 10th, 17th, 24th, etc. Maybe 3rd even.

tehehodi 06-21-2016 10:17 AM

Re: Skeet Shooting

Lets shoot for the 24th. I can't wait to use my new clay sunglasses! I have 500 shells of 20 gauge and I have a 12 gauge, so...if anybody wants to bring their 20 gauge, feel free to toss me some bones and I got some shells for ya.

I also updated the first post with event info.

AwdGSX13 06-21-2016 10:26 AM

Re: Skeet Shooting

Sounds good, I'll be in attendance. I will also bring my 12 gauge, if someone doesn't have a gun I would be fine with sharing mine as well.

Should we say maybe noon?

tehehodi 06-21-2016 10:38 AM

Re: Skeet Shooting

Noon is good assuming some don't drink too hard the night before haha.

Re: Skeet Shooting

Shooting shotgun may not be the best for a hangover anyway lol

tehehodi 07-05-2016 11:15 AM

Re: Skeet Shooting

Is 4 the limit for a group?

My friend Zach is down. If he doesn't have a shotgun by then, I can have him use mine and we can stagger the group as Matt suggested.

AwdGSX13 07-05-2016 11:16 AM

Re: Skeet Shooting

Can have more than 4.

A//// Guy 07-05-2016 11:37 AM

Re: Skeet Shooting

I should be able to make this too, not sure ill have a gun for it tho. I can just watch haha

I'm sure one will be available to use.

AwdGSX13 07-05-2016 04:44 PM

Re: Skeet Shooting

I don't believe you can use 3" shells fyi. Best to buy 2 and 3/4.

1QUICK4 07-05-2016 04:44 PM

Re: Skeet Shooting

I might be out of town but if not I'm game for the 24th

tehehodi 07-05-2016 07:13 PM

Re: Skeet Shooting

Can an Admin change the title to Sporting clays?

I'm assuming that's what this will be right Matt? I know they have Skeet and trap available as well.

AwdGSX13 07-06-2016 07:31 AM

Re: Skeet Shooting

Correct, a mix of both.

goodhart 07-06-2016 09:06 PM

Re: Skeet Shooting

Wouldn't mind going, but that's a long ways to go for sporting clays! :(

Do come, then you could bring those subframe braces for me haha

Re: Sporting Clays/Skeet/Trap - July 24, 2016

Are there any gun restrictions? I have a CZ 712 G2 with a 12+1 capacity. Ridiculous for this type of event but just making sure as long as I use 2 3/4" 7 1/2 or 8 shot I'll be fine?

AwdGSX13 07-11-2016 07:37 AM

Re: Sporting Clays/Skeet/Trap - July 24, 2016

I don't believe that is an issue, i use 2 3/4 8 shot. The rule would be that you only have 2 shells in at any given time so it shouldn't matter about capacity.

AwdGSX13 07-11-2016 10:39 AM

Re: Sporting Clays/Skeet/Trap - July 24, 2016

Just realized I get back from North Carolina at 10 am that morning. Should still be able to make it though at 12:30.

goodhart 07-12-2016 05:46 PM

Re: Sporting Clays/Skeet/Trap - July 24, 2016

I know at my club, the capacity doesn't matter so long as you only put in the required amount of shells for the station and use 2 3/4 shell in 7.5 or 8 shot.
