Re: WHITE POW'R! - Winter beater turned....?
Today between classes and dealing with some other...stuff, I decided to preoccupy myself. Here are the pictures I said I'd take and post up.
My not so clean, clean pistons and rods. lol http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps8811787b.jpg Something had to have gone haywire with either taking this part or something. Two or the rods have some damage. Rod marked as "#1". http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps125838e9.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps671d350f.jpg I believe this is rod "#3". http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps815968d2.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps87a162f9.jpg Since I brought up some damage; this is why you do not allow people whom know nothing about what you are talking about try to help you. http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...psae4ee990.jpg Yeah, the machine screw (or whatever others' referred to as), had its Phillips head completely stripped out. I asked someone if they had and impact driver. Their solution was an impact gun with a screw driver bit. Yeah....no. So I had to drill it out. I'm not sure when I'll try to remove it.. I'm almost a little bit afraid to. It'll get done though, no worries there. On the positive note though, the oil pump gear/housing isn't too scratched/tore up like you see on a lot of engines! http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...psb1b6e66e.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps87e64c0f.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps7699758d.jpg Here is the main reason I took this baby down to this point; my friends all looked at the crank and said since I'm already this far I should just polish the bitch. Yeah, "just" polish it. http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps4eb0209c.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps91259e51.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps5a7aa8ce.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps5add8f09.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...psbb609379.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps969d910d.jpg I apologize for the somewhat crack head shaking I did while taking some of the pictures. Today wasn't exactly my day, so I blame some of the "occurrences" right before this for the shakiness. |
Re: WHITE POW'R! - Winter beater turned....?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDDDDD the block.
http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps8bdf8486.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps130ff0c3.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...ps39cceabf.jpg What a joy it'll be repainting this after it gets out of the over, caustic cleaner and the tumbler. Yayyyy!!! |
Re: WHITE POW'R! - Winter beater turned....?
I was wondering wtf that screw was all about until I looked it up. Pretty lame that the 7 bolt uses a screw. 6 bolts have a bolt just like the rest of the holes.
Here's a helpful link I found: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/cyli...need-info.html Why not spray some paint stripper on the block beforehand? The aircraft stripper I used worked great. |

I could use that but it'd just be more work/time. I've already been pushing my luck with having this engine sit around for as long as it has. We usually only have one day to completely strip it. I've had it laying around the shop for nearly three weeks now. lol My main focus is to just get it rebuilt ASAP. Then finish a head when we start our heads class and have a kick ass setup for this coming Summer or the following. |
Re: WHITE POW'R! - Winter beater turned....?
Someone said something about a clearance issue in that thread being the reason for a screw vs. a bolt.

Looking at those rods, I don't think I would run them. Used sets of stockers are cheap enough I don't think I'd chance it.

Re: WHITE POW'R! - Winter beater turned....?
That's what I said. I'm thinking of grabbing some 1g rods. Maybe the ones turbotalon1g has up. Then some NPR pistons and calling it a day. We'll see I guess.
|
Re: WHITE POW'R! - Winter beater turned....?
Pretty sure 1g rods don't work with 7 bolts.

No, The rod journals are wider on a 6 bolt.

Re: WHITE POW'R! - Winter beater turned....?
You can make it happen. It's just the time you're willing to spend. Hell, maybe I'll buy some Evo. rods and save myself the work. Who knows.

Re: WHITE POW'R! - Winter beater turned....?
Honestly I think DSM Graveyard does it. Come to think of it I think punxnotdead185 has a set with Evo 9 pistons on it.
|
Re: WHITE POW'R! - Winter beater turned....?
Are Evo rods any stronger than 7 bolt rods?
|
Re: WHITE POW'R! - Winter beater turned....?
Ahhh, ole Northwest Tech, I went to school there too for Machining. I have a built Evo 8 block if you're looking for some manley I beams, manley crank, and Wiseco 10.5:1 pistons ;)

That might be a little extreme for this thing. For now anyway. |
Re: WHITE POW'R! - Winter beater turned....?
Pshh, might as well do it now while you have the facility! Did they keep the kickball tradition going at all? The machinists used to always go play drunken kickball haha

I do plan on building at least one crazy motor. Something for my 1g. Maybe something along the lines of an aluminum rod motor. Nothing serious. (; I haven't heard anything about kickball, lol. Then again, I really don't go out and party...at all. Some of these guys though; damn. lol |

...and here I was all happy about how the paint turned out. Gay. This was before I put it into the oven too. I have yet to see it. |
