Sporting Clays/Skeet/Trap

I would like to try shooting some clay pigeons and there was some interest of getting one of these skeet shooting events started.

Note: I am a complete newb when it comes to shooting moving targets so I guess this first outing would be for those guys who are willing to teach/give advice or can tolerate a newbie not being able to hit anything.

Place: Up in there air but in the south metro there is horse & hunt. Suggestions? I'm pretty mobile as long as it isn't way out there.

Time: We can figure this out as the thread goes on.

Woohoo! I would love this! I am not new to moving targets let alone shotgun moving targets but I could use the practice no doubt! I can certainly suggest Oakdale Gun Club for cheap and easy and smaller scale (less pressure) otherwise I know of some other places. I'm super down for this.

I am also game, and don't care if you're good or bad lol. Sunday is usually the best day for me. Horse and hunt is generally the go to spot for me.

Anybody a member of the Oakdale gun club?

This seems like reasonable pricing:

Different types of shooting. Horse and Hunt makes it a bit more interesting imo. vs oakdale. You do pay for the difference though. Also it looks like Oakdale is only trap? not a mix of both.

Ahh, I never knew there was a difference!

Does horse and hunt have the option for sporting clays?

Re: Skeet Shooting

You know you can drive an hour north of town and do it for free. At one of the places I go dirt biking they have a gun range there. Iam sure you can throw some clays and shoot there. I don't see where not. I have a thrower sitting at home.

Re: Skeet Shooting

horse and hunt is sporting clays. basically like a golf course where you go to 5 different stations. I do believe they also have a trap station but it isn't as fun.

Well I'm down for horse and hunt for sure then.

What's everybody's schedule like?

I will return from some travels on July 1st so I may miss the first gathering but I'm down just about any Saturday or Sunday or any weekday after 5.

Re: Skeet Shooting

Basically any Saturday or Sunday would work for me.

Re: Skeet Shooting

If you're just starting out may be easier to try trap. Skeet and especially sporting clays are pretty humbling although they can be more fun depending on how competitive you are. I'm shooting trap again for my dad this season, I think it's about my 12th or so season. Averaging about 21.5 getting back into the swing of things.
