Yes I couldn't wait anymore. Your contributions have been very appreciated, Thank you with all your help.

I love my VRSF FMIC, I get tons of compliments of how it looks and I've never had an issue with intake temps or coolant temps since putting it in.

Some more pics

Went up to BIR over the weekend for Proving Grounds and ran in the 1/4 mile. This is the first time i've ever launched this car or been to a track, so I was definitely nervous. Had 2 problems I gotta address before going out again, the first was having an issue going from 1st to 2nd in the upper rpms especially if I tried with NLTS (probably driver error) and second is needing wider, better tires.. spun all 4 near every time running my 215/60r16 kelly explorers. lol.
Ended up running just shy of the 11's and hit a 12.1 and a 12.0 overall it was one of the best experiences ever and i'm hooked.

Well the tear down has begun. Started with the dash removal. Got every connector on both harnesses labeled and ready to be completely redone/ tucked.. Debating fuse box in glove box or center council. Trans and engine will come out this week. All that's left is to remove the Trans and engine mount. Till then..

Re: Mark's Talon

Have fun doing it. Hated wiring after I was done doing the Evo then the Spyders engine bay harness.

You still have part of your engine stand over here.

Re: Mark's Talon

Yea wiring not fun. While doing it atleast but when your done with it it makes it totally worth all the hassel.

Re: Mark's Talon

Yea figured I'd give it a shot I have 6 months to come up with something, if I mess up I can find a replacement or get the harness they make..I've always wanted a clean bay and I don't think it's just going to happen.
The plan as of now is to completely redo the "engine" harness and try to keep most of the "Chassis" harness intact with slight modification to make either location work. So here goes nothing I guess haha.

Yes mark, when can I grab it?

Forgot to even mention what I was doing I got so excited with tearing it all down. Anyway I am building a new engine from valve cover to oil pan with the block including Wiseco hd pistons and either Manley or Eagle Rods and suiting it with a bigger turbo. Along with that I will also be doing a full wire tuck and relocating the fuse box as mentioned above to whats now looking more like the center council.

I started to tear it down last week. Removed the Engine/ Trans, Both wiring harnesses, Dash and all interior.
I've been picking away at the engine harness a little bit each day. Heres where I am at now!

Started on the other harness tonight

Re: Mark's Talon

Decided on the fuse box in the glove box. Got the interior "chassis" harness just about routed, will be finishing that up today and tomorrow. All the wires that are lengthened or shortened are reconnected using weatherproof butt connectors and no solder. This weekend I will put the dash back into the car. Pretty pumped on how it's turning out so far.

Pic is or the fuse box I'm glove box, still need to make a mounting bracket for it.

Re: Mark's Talon

Well the harness is done until I can get the engine back in, I think it turned out looking awesome, now just hope it all works properly.
Measured the oil clearances and they are very tight, but within spec.
Picked up a new block as well thanks to John (pushit2.0). Smoothed out the oil galleys and de-burred it to all my tools could reach, thanks man!
Going to run ARP on the rods/ mains and head studs as well. Still debating the regular ARP, H11's or L19's. Also thinking of running a Kiggly HLA Pressure Regulator any opinions? (will be running lots of boost)
Will also be grabbing a 2g head from Tyler here soon.

Dark2g 11-13-2015 07:11 PM

Re: Mark's Talon

I have run arp standard bolts to 30lbs and have have my l19's running around 42lbs with no problems. Kiggley is a great choice.

More parts on the way. Along in the mix is the Kiggly HLA pressure regulator.

you do know the 2.4 water pipe is bent out to the radiator and not back like to the fire wall like the turbo water pipes.

top 2.4 bottom 2.0

Re: Mark's Talon

So what would be the best way to delete the water provisions for the turbo? I thought this was the pipe to get for that. Am I just mistaken and is there another one with no turbo coolant spots or do I just delete them as they are right now? Or cut and remount it so It fits to the t-stat housing or use a different t-stat housing?

Started to make a valve spring compressor tool because I know I will be doing more work on these heads.

Euroexport makes an awesome valve spring compressor tool. I have the set but lost a piece to it. Makes life a lot easier.

mark4g63t 11-23-2015 04:40 PM

Re: Mark's Talon

I've seen that one and while I like how it holds the spring compressed which makes installation easier, I wanted one that I didn't have to screw and unscrew to move to the next spring. Seen a couple people make this one, and it looked easy. Just drop 2 head studs in to hold it in place and you're able to do one whole side with ease.

More updates coming soon.

Re: Mark's Talon

I made a very quick setup similar to yours. Works much faster than the style you have to bolt in, I can have all the valves out in probably 10 minutes or so.

Pistons and rods will be going in shortly. Than I can make a final decision on the turbo and manifold I will be running! :woohoo1:
Next on the list will be to:
Weld up the IAT bung in the upper IC pipe for speed density.
Finish welding closed all the unused holes in the engine bay and finish sanding/ getting it ready for the new paint.
Get the head torn apart and ready to be decked and the head stud holes enlarged will also do the oil port mod and then install it back together with ss valves and new springs.
Think about how to cage it....

Re: Mark's Talon

Deburred the head and did the oil port mod. Just waiting to get the main bearing cap dowel pins then the head and block will be going to what will most likely be GOSH to be;
Block:
fully cleaned, bored .020 over, align honed with new dowel pins, balanced, decked and assembled
Head:
Fully cleaned and decked and new valve seals put in

Re: Mark's Talon

Talked with Gosh and the block is going in end of this month beginning of next!

I still need to get the IAT sensor bung welded into the upper IC pipe and a Tial BOV flange welded on along with the SMIM I picked up needs to be welded, cracked on the previous owner.

Harnesses are 95% done! Just need to lengthen the plug for the alternator and a ground for the brake light switch and finish taping them. My wrist/fingers cramp after 2 minutes now. So I'm taking my time lol. Put the old engine in the car to route everything and you cant see a wire!

mark4g63t 01-27-2016 08:27 PM

Re: Mark's Talon

1 Attachment(s)
Both harnesses are complete! Will throw it in the car tomorrow and see how it looks and will be ran.
Fuse box is in the glove box, harness comes out of that and splits in 3 major parts. Pass side. ECU and interior fuse box/ my gauges. Engine harness goes through the original hole in the firewall and connects to the "interior" harness/fuse box.
All tucked neatly away.
P/S, A/C, side markers, BCS, all emissions, and a bunch of other random wires were deleted.

Well a little set back..Block that was said to be a stock block std bore was in fact not, and already bored .020 over.. Anyway I ended up having to exchange my pistons for .040 over ones. Got those back to the machine shop and now it should be getting done soon!

In the mean time I've sanded the engine bay and filled the holes no longer going to be used. Relocated to front wiper wires. Put the dash in along with the interior harness/ fuse box. Just waiting for temps to get warmer before I paint the bay.

Running out of things to do until I can get my block back. Decided to pull my old head off my other block, lapped the valves, deburred it, cleaned, put the Kiggly HLA regulator on, and painted it. Going to be putting new valves (+1mm?) and dual springs in the ported head but that will need to wait for now.
Going to paint the bay one of these nights and make that rear diff mount
