Dolneys drag build

2 Attachment(s)
So as most of you have seen I started a build thread for the red 2g that we picked up not long ago. My girlfriend decided to keep and finish that 16g build and drive it so that left me car-less which made me on the look out for a car. Didnt take long before I got the chance to take a look at and buy this 93 1gb talon. Some of you may recognize it but it used to be map’s old 1g from what i hear, it has a full certified cage with a tubed front end ready to go. I could not be more excited to have a awsome base to build off of and get this thing going. I have thrown a little list together of parts i will forsure be getting but for the most part im still at the drawing board. The list will change and get bigger as i dig into the car more

Engine :
Built aluminum rod 6 bolt shortblock
Built 7 bolt head
Gsc s3 cams
Magnus intake manifold

Drivetrain/suspension
Ppg dogbox
Driveshaft shop axles
Boostin performance built tcase
Quart master triple disk
Frontline fab diff cover / bearing caps
Bulfab mustache bar
Bulfab 1 peice front crossmember
D2 drag coilovers

Turbo:
Pte gen2 6062
Jmfab manifold

Fuel:
Jmfab fuel cell
Fic 2150s fuel injectors
Fuel pump ( mechanical) ?!?

Ffff yeah. That car has some history that is for sure.
Glad to see you want to stick to a manual, means it will be on the street for sure.

So is your girls car gonna be a 16G beast?

Any reason you are choosing that turbo? IIRC you have it already from your suby build right?

Can't wait to see these cars of yours out.

Never will go auto lol. As for the gf 2g yes it will be a 16g car, and for the turbo you are correct i have it already and i never got to see its full potential in the sti so id like to max it out on this car and see what she can do.

David,

Ill probably send a core out to jacks and have them put a dogbox in it. Ill get a 300m output shaft thats probably all as far as extras

Ever thought about TMZ in Wisconsin? I know he's been helping with boostin demons stuff

Re: Dolneys 2nd drag build

Oh ok, i see. The pinion drive and front diff cross shafts being a liability have me paranoid to do the upgrade...but i suppose we will see how it goes. The spool that generally is put into it makes it rather not street friendly. Perhaps mark can pitch in on the street driving a dog box...as he has one and let us know perhaps its not to bad...but i cant imagine driving a welded center with theoretically a locked front diff or spool and trying to take any turns for that matter. Straight race car!

Havnt really looked into tmz yet but just did and their stage 5 dogbox is basically exactly what i am looking for, with the upgraded 300m output shaft. I will definantly have to get in touch with them !

You do realize that the dogbox stage 5 from tmz is OEM gears that are just faceplated for 4k?

Yes I do. Worth it or not ? I am still doing my research before I make a final decision, any suggestions and input you guys think I should do just post away. I have been reading more on their stg 6 actual ppg dogbox from tmz and could just bite the bullet on that and get it done and over with. Add the boostin 300m output shaft and also think i would swap out the ppg spool for a 4-spider center differential with the Unbreakable Beyond Redline Peformance Custom Hardened Chromoly 4-Spider Center Differential Cross-Shaft.

Re: Dolneys 2nd drag build

Its up to you I was just pointing out that it's faceplated gears by Liberty. Liberty charges just about $1000 for putting dog engagement on 1-4 gears, sleeves, and hubs. So for an extra 3k on top doesn't seem worth it to me.

Makes sense. Thanks for the heads up, it totally went right over my head !

Just message tim Zimmer and hear what he has to say.

Good thing is he's almost always checking in on tuners and ecmlink. Even if you don't go with his stuff he's always trying to help.

Glad to get involved in this one! If you drag race and make a lot of power, the only solution for a manual transmission in a dsm is the PPG gear set. A faceplated gear only help with shifting not the strength of the gear. Factory gear sets fail at anything over 700whp. I was replace the factory 4th gear after 30 to 40 passes, then I made more power, and broke them in a hand full of passes.

That settles that then full ppg dogbox it is. I wont be making alot of power right away probably 600-700 with my 6062 but will work my way to above that 800 mark at some point.

Also been looking at fuel pumps and have my mind set kindof on the weldon 1100-a with a 10an feed line and 8an return. Any other options you guys might have or think of something just let me know !

I would over kill on the pump just to be sure that wont be an issue down the road. Like a weldon 2015a or magnafuel mp 4102.

So many race cars being built! I will vouch for tmz, you get what you pay for with him and the dog box is a good idea for big power. I am gonna have to do the same after I ruin my tmz built trans. It has been handling my power up tell now at least.

It's a little more expensive but it doesnt put any strain on the charging system, and there's no noise, plus all the fuel you could dream of

Finished up gutting the rest of the interior tonight and man that sound insulation stuff behind the dash is heavy as hell. Also pulled all the heater / ac junk, I have to say it was all quite a bit of weight all together. Now just to paint the cage and put the some of the interior back in.
