Steering rack is in with the new TME poly bushings. End links have been tightened up, and the new tie rod ends are pumped up with grease. Filled up the PS fluid and took it for a spin around the block. Car feels MUCH tighter, it was immediately noticable! I think the steering bushings are mostly to thank for that. The old ones were stock rubber, and were falling apart. I'm sure new stock rubber ones would have felt better also, but they're still rubber and have a little play. These poly ones are stiff. I love them :)

What was funny though was we must have been off a little bit when putting the steering wheel shaft back on. The car still drives perfectly straight, but the steering wheel is like 100* off. It's pretty funny looking cruising around with the steering wheel that far off, haha.

Also I think the motor mounts made a difference as well. Steve even mentioned before that when you just free revved the car, you could feel the motor shake a hair. That is gone now, you hardly feel anything!

But also thanks again to brownman for stopping by and helping me. I would still be trying to get that f-in rod in if it wasn't for you man :)

Next I'm going to move onto the rear end. I have the new rear swaybar endlinks to install, but while I'm back there I will be checking for anything else out of the norm. But I'll wait a week or so to do that, I want to enjoy driving the car this weekend.

I am honestly really happy I'm approaching things in this manner, meaning doing all this maintenance up front before throwing power mods at it. Just this alone made the car feel so much better to drive, I'm amazed!

Re: Project Lex

Aren't you going to get it aligned? Sorry if I missed it in your posts; but with all the front end work I wouldn't drive it that far without getting aligned, that is unless you want new tires too. :)

Re: Project Lex

Allignment is definately in order, yup. But I'm also going to be changing the front upper and lower ball joints, so once that is done is when I will get it allgined.

Since it's a nice day I decided to hang out outside a little bit and do some more.

Rear sway bar end links are installed. The old ones actually didn't look horrible, but apparently they made it 150k miles so hopefully these new ones will also :)

I'm also going to try and work on the steering wheel issue a little this afternoon as well.

Spoke with Ricer Pete a little bit today, and will hopefully be having him getting this thing alligned :)

Also got some stuff today!

- SS Braided Power Steering line from Drift Motion (to replace my possible leaking 160k mile stocker.
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1289270921

- Tial 40mm wastegate I got used off the Link forums. This is what the manifold is flanged for, so that's what I'll be running!
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1289270921

- AEM AFPR w/ Turbosmart liquid filled gauge. Great price from the folks at MAP, and they had them all in stock :D
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1289270921

- Two Walbro 255hp pumps. Once again, thanks to the guys over at MAP, had it all in stock :)
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1289270921

As the maintenance stuff is winding down, I'm starting to focus on mods I can start to do. As you can tell, I've decided to start tackling the fuel system. Plan is basically to run a dual 255hp intank setup just like I had on my 1G. Worm clamp em to the stock hanger assembly and set em up in parallel.

I'm unsure what the stock fpr can handle, so just for good measure I decided to grab this AEM AFPR from MAP that they have priced very nicely. And I like the fact it's black, and not bling bling anodized red/purple. Haven't figured out where to mount it or line size or anything yet, but that's ok this is still just the acquisition of parts phase. :)

Link to cheap Y-fittings for dual intank setups. Some guys have been using them successfully on the link forums, so probably what I will use as well. Apparently can't order online there for the time being until they finish updating the site. Not bad at .99 each. I'm going to grab 5 of them incase I break one, or if anyone else needs one, might save on some shipping costs.

Re: Project Lex

I don't know if you're planning on running E85 again. But might these get eaten by it if you are? Or is it just rubber that has trouble with E85?

Halon 11-09-2010 12:07 AM

Re: Project Lex

handful of guys on the link forums seem to be fine running these on E85. It was said they are e86 safe. I have no clue what makes it safe or not, but if it's working for them for a couple years than I'll give it a shot. All the metal Y's I've found thus far are like over 20 bucks. I could just use a brass T again like I did in the DSM but I caught a lot of flack about that, even though it never seemed to be an issue for me. So I'll give these a shot.

Those manifolds aren't flanged for a Tial 40mm? Not last I checked? Do the holes actually line up? They've always had that HKS rectangle flange...?

Submersible line is supposed to have a 30r10 rating and regular lines 30r9. At $20/ft, 30r10 isn't what will come in a typical install kit. Less expensive line will certainly work but the oils will get pulled out of it over time--you'll find the black goo in your fuel filter and on your injector tips a year from now.

I haven't checked to see if it matches up, but I will now that you've said that. I assumed i was a Tial 40 because of the square flange not only on the manifold, but on the dump tube as well. Don't the HKS's have a 4-bolt manifold flange, but a 2 bolt flange for the dump tube? Maybe I assumed wrong and I just goofed... :(

I was commenting on the photo of the install kit.

All of the aftermarket double-pump kits that I've seen use a metal Y. I'd be more concerned about plastic cracking under pressure than the fuel chewing it up. That piece looks sturdy from the pic.

Full Blown uses brass parts in their kits and they should be cheap if you can find what you need--it's basically plumbing or hydraulic parts rather than designed for fuel like AN fittings.

Halon 11-10-2010 10:08 AM

Re: Project Lex

I ran a brass T on my DSM setup, and would always catch flack about how it wasn't ideal for flow because it's a T and not a Y, yet I never really seemed to have an issue with it. The metal Y's I'm finding are in he $25+ dollar range, which I'm too cheap to do that. While I would much rather have a metal fitting, if others are using this without issue I may give it a shot as they are $1. Or I'll just hit up Ace and run another brass T and say screw the nay-sayers :)

turbotalon1g 11-10-2010 10:10 AM

Re: Project Lex

I'd do metal fittings, but thats just me. If its be proven to work, then well it works. Piece of mind thing for me.

Boo T-fittings, remember to upgrade the wiring.

Re: Project Lex

I ran a brass T also Brandon. I think we made right around the same hp (512 DJ@DB), so we certainly didn't find the limit for the T itself.

Re: Project Lex

Doh I meant 512 DD@DB haha. So I don't think there's a concern for flow issues. It's your call, I like being different also. That's why I ran Evo parts on my DSM but not anything that could leave me stranded hehe.

Re: Project Lex

Damn-it Cher!!! You are right, the Tial 40mm is not what this was flanged for. I'm going to start searching for a used HKS gate I guess. I've only ever ran Tial before, so I don't even know what size I am supposed to be looking at that fits this flange.

If I can't find a used HKS for a decent price, I may just start considering other WG options, and get the flanged chopped off and flange the manifold for whatever I decide on. Or maybe make some kind of adapter so I can just run this 40mm I already bought. Unless anyone else has any other clever ideas. And this is one of those components I won't consider using a china-bay knock off.

Also have been speaking with Shane@DB a little bit about picking out injectors for this. Hopefully will be able to make a decision on those in the next couple weeks, and that should wrap up my fuel system.

Cool thanks man. Maybe shoot me a price in PM what you'd want for it, what color it is, what spring is in it, and if it comes with all flanges needed to weld to the manifold and dump tube :)

The injectors for your engine come with the 16mm o.d. square orings as in the pic above. Also included are the blue 11mm adaptors tops that are required for your application, and new injector connectors.

And the price you have listed, that will come with the extensions/adapters to fit right up to my stock fuel rail? A purple or red top or something is what I've gathered? Yes

Don't blame you there, 1600's are the devil! lol You'll be extremely happy with these, they idle and drive like stock injectors, seriously. Your pump/injector plan should work out great.

There is a spot on the passenger side of the engine, on the upper (aluminum) oil pan. There is a large hole with a small hole on either side. Drill out the large hole, and tap the small holes with a 6mm tap.

Just an update on my Chiyna stereo GPS problem. I've been troubleshooting it just about every other day with their tech support via email over the last few weeks. They've finally ran out of ideas and asked for me to send it back. So I will be removing it and shipping it back out to them tomorrow hopefully. Bummer that I haven't fixed it yet, but can't complain about their customer service as it's been a lot better than I ever expected from a company on the other side of the planet. So kudos on them for that. Hopefully they get it fixed and sent back and it works just fine for a long time after this. If so, I'm definately going to consider one for the Envoy.

I was actually eyeing a few of these units up after your initial reviews, does their customer service speak pretty good english, just wondering incase I ever have to deal with them. Idk if you've looked at any of the name brand nav units but if you have how does it compare in terms of screen resolution? Sorry for all my stupid questions u can pm me back if u want just kinda wanted a first person unbiased review.

Edit* shoulda used a pm instead sorry for the clutter

Re: Project Lex

I haven't been around many of these (name brand or no-name) so I can't speak on behalf of that. But playing a movie on here, is definately clearer than I expected. It's not HD or anything, but I'd say close to the clarity of my K-Mart LCD TV in my bedroom. Nothing amazing, but not bad either. I was impressed.

Their customer service has been great. I thought maybe I was gunna be screwed as they are in China. But he answers my emails within a day typically, and is very polite, constantly assuring me he'll leave me with a "satisfied response" about them. Their English is great. You can definitely tell they are not from here, but it's fine really. Here's an excerpt from an email to get you the idea...

Dear Cusotmer,
thank you for your email,
please don't worry, if we confirm this problem, we will give you a satisfied solution,
we doubt this is just the problem of gps antenna, but we will send you the new GPS antenna asap.

Best Regards,
Jessie

Very polite. So it sucks that the GPS isn't working, but they are working with me in a nice and professional manner so I'm not complaining. But this is also why I haven't written up a full review of it yet. Because this is still on going. Once it's working, and I've had it installed for awhile and working, I'll post up a review. If all works out, the Envoy will probably be getting one also.

I'm still waiting on an EMS setup so I've decided to start doing some 'non-intrusive' mods that won't affect the current drivability of the car. So....

Initial mock-up of the FMIC is done. Couple notes are that there is a TON of room in here to fit this thing. 4" thick intercooler, and zero trimming of the bumper will be needed. Also I ensured to put it high enough so that the bottom of the FMIC will not be hanging below the bottom of the front bumper, which I made sure of because I've seen quite a few other ones setup like that and it looks weird IMO. I got it perfectly level at the moment (made sure the car was level first). Also I took a picture to show the gap between the FMIC and the A/C Condenser. Lots of room in between there. I would have pushed the core back further but the A/C lines would then be blocking one of the inlets of the FMIC, so that is why it is placed exactly where it is. If I could have tucked it back further, I may have been able to retain the factory coolant reservoir but nope, so I'll just be using the old reservoir from my Talon. There's 2 horns. I remounted one a little more out of the way, and the other I will either remount, or just remove as I don't feel like I really need 2. It alsoit looks like I will be able to retain the stock crash beam, but for weight reasons I may just leave the sucker off, we'll see :) And lastly, doing this made me notice part of my bumper is broken (you can see in the very center the plastic grill piece is broken in the center) :( ghey, but whatever because eventually (probably not unilt next year) I plan on switching out the the 97+ bumpers so not a huge deal.

OK so here's some pics. Probably be making a trip to Lowe's later for some lengts of aluminum angle to mount this in place.

And she's mounted. Used some Aluminum Angle up top to hold it up and in place. It stayed up and in place real well with just those 2 brackets, but since it's thinner metal up there it could swing a little bit if you pushed on it.

So... dug in the trash can where I've been putting everything I've ripped out of the car. Found some left over steel strapping from the ghetto bass system the original owner had installed, which I ripped out. Dug in my can of misc bolts and found 2 small matching bolts that threaded right into the chassis. Can't say I'm a huge fan of using this strapping stuff as it isn't the cleanest looking way to mount stuff, but all I needed was something to prevent swaying and it really worked perfect in this case. Pretty happy with how it turned out in the end. :)

OK more pics :D
