Re: Mark's Talon
So what would be the best way to delete the water provisions for the turbo? I thought this was the pipe to get for that. Am I just mistaken and is there another one with no turbo coolant spots or do I just delete them as they are right now? Or cut and remount it so It fits to the t-stat housing or use a different t-stat housing?

Started to make a valve spring compressor tool because I know I will be doing more work on these heads.

Re: Mark's Talon
I've seen that one and while I like how it holds the spring compressed which makes installation easier, I wanted one that I didn't have to screw and unscrew to move to the next spring. Seen a couple people make this one, and it looked easy. Just drop 2 head studs in to hold it in place and you're able to do one whole side with ease.
More updates coming soon. |
Re: Mark's Talon
I made a very quick setup similar to yours. Works much faster than the style you have to bolt in, I can have all the valves out in probably 10 minutes or so.

Pistons and rods will be going in shortly. Than I can make a final decision on the turbo and manifold I will be running! :woohoo1:
Next on the list will be to: Weld up the IAT bung in the upper IC pipe for speed density. Finish welding closed all the unused holes in the engine bay and finish sanding/ getting it ready for the new paint. Get the head torn apart and ready to be decked and the head stud holes enlarged will also do the oil port mod and then install it back together with ss valves and new springs. Think about how to cage it.... |
Re: Mark's Talon

Deburred the head and did the oil port mod. Just waiting to get the main bearing cap dowel pins then the head and block will be going to what will most likely be GOSH to be;
Block: fully cleaned, bored .020 over, align honed with new dowel pins, balanced, decked and assembled Head: Fully cleaned and decked and new valve seals put in |

Speed density cable showed up

Re: Mark's Talon
Talked with Gosh and the block is going in end of this month beginning of next!
I still need to get the IAT sensor bung welded into the upper IC pipe and a Tial BOV flange welded on along with the SMIM I picked up needs to be welded, cracked on the previous owner. |

Harnesses are 95% done! Just need to lengthen the plug for the alternator and a ground for the brake light switch and finish taping them. My wrist/fingers cramp after 2 minutes now. So I'm taking my time lol. Put the old engine in the car to route everything and you cant see a wire!

Re: Mark's Talon

Both harnesses are complete! Will throw it in the car tomorrow and see how it looks and will be ran.
Fuse box is in the glove box, harness comes out of that and splits in 3 major parts. Pass side. ECU and interior fuse box/ my gauges. Engine harness goes through the original hole in the firewall and connects to the "interior" harness/fuse box. All tucked neatly away. P/S, A/C, side markers, BCS, all emissions, and a bunch of other random wires were deleted. |
Re: Mark's Talon
Very cool thread, man. Looking good so far.

Re: Mark's Talon
I am doing a similar 20g setup, did you ever dyno your car?
|
Re: Mark's Talon
I didn't, really wish I did but oh well

Well a little set back..Block that was said to be a stock block std bore was in fact not, and already bored .020 over.. Anyway I ended up having to exchange my pistons for .040 over ones. Got those back to the machine shop and now it should be getting done soon!
In the mean time I've sanded the engine bay and filled the holes no longer going to be used. Relocated to front wiper wires. Put the dash in along with the interior harness/ fuse box. Just waiting for temps to get warmer before I paint the bay. |

Running out of things to do until I can get my block back. Decided to pull my old head off my other block, lapped the valves, deburred it, cleaned, put the Kiggly HLA regulator on, and painted it. Going to be putting new valves (+1mm?) and dual springs in the ported head but that will need to wait for now.
Going to paint the bay one of these nights and make that rear diff mount |
