About 1 week ago I did a compression test on my 1992 GSX. I got 140-150-150-150 (1-2-3-4 w/ 1 being closest to the driver side). I have noticed that my coolant level keeps going down. My water temp gauge gets higher than normal when I stomp on it even in this chilly weather. So I assume I'm burning the coolant somewhere. I do have a cat-less exhaust, but I see a poof of smoke white/gray smoke on startup sometimes (thats normal right?). Where could the coolant be getting burned up? Could it be the headgasket? turbo? I don't see any external coolant leaks, either. Thanks!

Are you running the stock turbo? What are your mods? What psi are you running?


:naughty: Whatever happened to the forum rules, specifically about posting your mods with posts. Newbies should be forced to read all the rules before posting, like a joining the site ceremony. Well obviously past my bedtime too. :rant:

I really dont think for this question he needs a mod list... I mean its either his headgasket or something else is burning coolant.

Did you check your car for a coolant leak anywhere? Is your radiator cap have a good seal?

If you have no known leaks and have a pressurized system, it is most likely your headgasket.

To tell if its your headgasket or not you will have to "pressurize" your coolant system. Which means you will have to drive around for awhile. Then pop your hood, if the HG is blown you should have a lot of coolant in your overflow bottle and/or it will be bubbling.

Whats the coolent mixture?
How does the overflow look?
Like craig suggested, if the coolent system is good and free from leaks, odds are you have a cracked block or a blown headgasket (possibly cracked head as well). Leakdown tests, pressurizing tests, and general observation can discover the issue.
