Coolant reservoir arrived with the braided lines.
I guessed bought 8an line. It would work if I really tighteneed down the ends but. I'm going to order 6an linr as I believe it will be a better fit.

Sad part is this is almost.chrome looking. And actually its almost to shiny for my engine bay lol. I took picts of it sitting on my mishimoto x-line radiator just to show the difference.

Now you will have to polish all your dull aluminum parts:)

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

I really didn't want to do that. But I may polish everything 1 time take a picture and then hope everything dulls at the same pace lol.

Finally the car us back up and running with zero leaks so far after 100 mile trip. Couldn't be happier.

Nice, gotta be good feeling to get it back together and have no leaks!

It definetly does. I really want to road race this car (hoping for a time in aug when my brother comes to race vir for a month solid like he's done last 2yrs in a row.

But can't race if you leaks.

Side note on my break today at work I fabbed up amount for my new mishimoto coolant reservoir.
I just need to cut the hose down to length when I leave and tomorrow I'll paint the bracket for final assembly. Here's what it looks like so far.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

Thanks, I still have a ways to go. But I've been trying to do alot of "new"oem replacement stuff as i go along with all the aftermarket stuff.

If you go back and I think it's post #3. I update thay everytime I put something new on the car and the dates I put it on or arrived. (As some parts I'm hording due to a sale or what not I came across)

I had been talking with my brother about what type of steering wheel and racing Seats he's found he likes.

And he immediate said http://drivensteering.net

Said he knows the owner quality is top notch. So after talking with him today he convinced me to pull the trigger on there line (didn't really take much, it's half the price of sparco products, the company theme is red/black which is perfect for the car)
I plan to buy there racing Seats come tax time. But for now here's what I have coming.

Driven 12.9"flat steering wheel
Driven quick release
Sparco hub (they didn't have there own. So ordered it from extremepsi as I had to place an order for other stuff as well to complete my 4an vacuum setup, and I want to switch my aem oil pressure gauge to read the turbo fees oil pressure.

Installed all the 4an vacuum lines today. But extremepsi.com sent the wrong 90 adapter for the turbo.
But are overnighting the piece.

I'll take better pictures once the piece arrives so I can pull it out of the garage.

Also wife messaged me at work and said my ORTIX center vent pod arrived today. So that'LL probably be my weekend project. Hoping to put my boost and A/F gauge in the center.

If 1 gauge won't reach I'm contemplated using the passengerside pod for a safety cut off switch location for road racing

Just a pict update. Test fit the gauge pod. And I really need to get a black dash

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

Well installed the aem oil temp gauge today. No matter where I put it the harness was at least 3 inches to short.

So I had to extend the sensor wires.

When it was all said and done the Guage only reads "- - - "

I didn't check it prior to extending the wires so I have no idea if the sensor is bad or if I ruined the harness, or what. But it powers on just fine.

Valve cover and intake pipe needed to be redone. I was going to just polish them. But the wife asked what it would look like painted the same as the car.

I had the paint so went ahead and painted and polished the lettering just to see. Still thinking polish will be the way I go. But for now.

Also did the tire pressure gauge clip, oil dipstick mod. Pretty slick little mod works great.

SlowWhite 10-02-2016 08:25 PM

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

Well little update.
-new oem clutch slave cylinder
-DEI cool tape wraoped my FP intake.
-DEI cool tape wrapped my lower I/C pipe
-DEI cool pad wrapped the bottom of my oil pan where the down pipe goes.
-DEI header wrapped my down pipe.
-removed all the paint from my valve cover and intake (was shocked to find 5 different layers/colors of paint on the valvery cover, the bottom one being a royal pain in the ass to get off but persistence paid off) I didn't get as much time because of that, to do the quality polish I would normally have OCD labored over it.

I also got in a lower pressure spring for my oil filter housing. Just ran out of time to install it. My son had cub scouts this weekend.

Just for fun. Pictures of the 3 different phases of the engine bay.
1)black - original
2)red - wife wanted to see . And looked good but the valve cover amd intake were much brighter then the engine bay red and didn't look good as a whole.
3)polished - final

-Moroso sealed battery box
-Moroso kill switch
-Moroso battery terminals
-tpp exhaust manifold blanket
-ptp hx35/40 turbo blanket
-new black silicone couplers to replace all the blue ones.
-Ortiz triplet radio bezel gauge pod (to replace the a-pillar pod to make room for cage bar)
-Porsche front brake ducts. To direct air to brakes.
-lower psi spring for oil filter housing (still haven't gotten to it)

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

Ya car was parked in my garage amd just took a quick shot before work.

But you can see it clear as day once you know what you're looking for.

The middle gauge holder must have dropped down while it was being glued or something. Caused 2 issues.
1) the middle gauge is slightly angled towards the driverside gauge, and not perfectly flat like the other 2.
2)the angle makes the middle gauge closer to the driverside one so they don't appear to be evenly spaced apart.

I had 2 people at work see it with in 10seconds.

I just don't know if I want to wait another 8 weeks. Or if I'll be able to not care about the flaw.

My OCD is weird some things just bother the hell out of me and this one is borderline.

But some how the grey dash is ok even though the rest of the interior is now black (seats don't count as I plan to get race seats shortly.

Decided to just keep the pod. Went ahead and wired up all the gauges. I still need to make the final decision on either getting a Trans temp gauge, oil pressure gauge for turbo pressure, or if I should located the battery cut off in the remaining hole.

I don't like having the A/F gauge below the boost gauge. So I'll be moving it up into the open hole probably later this week.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

If you were going to paint something regardless. Would you still go with carbonfiber?
Or would you get fiberglass instead?

Anyone know weight difference between the 2 as well say for a hood?

asshanson 12-13-2016 06:58 PM

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

Weight depends on the type of carbon fiber. The nice woven sheets with shiny epoxy that look pretty (wet) weigh a lot more than dry carbon pieces that would normally be painted. I think dry is like half the weight of wet cf.

Both are still lighter than fiberglass. Each piece will differ based on thickness, etc. For one example, on the lotus the front of the car is one giant piece of fiberglass. A carbon equivalent is about one third the weight.

You'll save about 30 lbs if memory serves me well.

asshanson 12-15-2016 11:46 PM

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

Over steel maybe. Cf won't be 30lbs less than grp.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

You said hood? Hoods are usually Fiberglass, with a layer of CF on top for looks.

Depends on how much you pay I guess haha. I'm sure there are full CF hoods available.

Glass reinforced plastic, or fiberglass.

Oh, yea.

I had a VIS on that old Avenger I had. Pretty similar front end wise to the 2g. The 2g parts fenders/hood/headlights/front bumper up actually bolt up with a little modification. Hoods are almost identical. Anyways, I want to say I lost about 30 lbs and it was grp underside on it. Doesn't help the stock is like 42 or 44 lbs I think?

SlowWhite 12-19-2016 07:52 PM

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

For reference iI debating on the. A.B. vented hood.

But its a toss up as I also may do a built tyranny. Stock ones still going Strong but its original.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

Well on the way home today from work. I decided to do a pull as i had just finished prior to work, bleeding my clutch and setting the engagement. And......

Well the clutch held just fine however in pretty sure I blew my hx40 turbo which has about 4000 miles on it now. Will pull the intake pipe tomorrow to verift if there is shaft play etc.

But:
24psi when it happened and was at 8500rpms. I was logging at the time of incident.
I now can't boost at all (i think its locked down for reasons below) goes to 0 on the gauge and stays. Absolutely not turbo spool sound (hx's are normally loud)
There was tons of smoke (1am hard to see color)
Oil on/from the center section of the turbo
Exhaust got like 1/2 as loud as it usually is almost sounded stock.
Car backfires and sputters on decal really badly
And oil pressure dropped from 80 to 58 by the time I got home

At least I still have the HX35 in the garage. Not sure what would have caused this. I have a -12an drain with a -4 line (restricted to -3an) fed from oil filter housing.

Well turbo spins. But has a lot of up and down and side to side play.

Looks like it started to rub on the compressor cover.
You can see scrap marks on the bottom on the inlet in the picture

AwdGSX13 02-03-2017 10:30 AM

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

Yeah that doesn't look good. I assume the oil feed is off the filter housing? 4000 miles is low for a turbo even at 24psi.

SlowWhite 02-03-2017 01:57 PM

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

Yep It's From The Oil Filter housing.

I plan to put my Hx35 back on but.i am kind of nervous as not sure what caused the failure.

Yep turbo is trashed.

But what I don't get is. It almost looks like something came through the exhaust side. There is no up down, side to side play on the exhaust side. But several of the fins are missing. Any thoughts of what would have caused this?

Also found my O2 housing is cracked.

asshanson 02-04-2017 06:53 PM

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

That's some serious turbo carnage.

AwdGSX13 02-04-2017 08:03 PM

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

That doesnt look good at all, not sure what would have done that unless something went through it. At least it wasnt the compressor side that blew apart.
